What better day I thought? As Kanye West announces his run for the US Presidency, it doesn’t seem at all left of centre, that I would start blogging again after a four year break. Times could not be stranger in the movie like existence we are living in during Covid-19 and I have seen many people turn back to content generation, to share, to care and to feel connected. I’m not going to promise a regular weekly post like the old days. But I am going to take the time to capture more moments from my personal food diary. And just as I have always done, find ways to be creative and pay it forward wi ..read more

Hellooo lovelies. It’s been a little while since my last post and I’ve missed you. But I’ve been busy with so many extraordinary new food projects and needed a little break after 6 straight years of blogging every, single, week. One of them is that I am co-writing a book. Yes a very old fashioned thing called a book with oh just 80,000 odd words. I will give you more deets soon and updates but now it’s on to a hot food find (well beverage actually) on my radar. Hipster Barista – roll over soy as the turmeric latte is coming to town! Recently I was at the launch of Golden Grind a new blen ..read more

Recipe ReDux Shared Plates Round Up

Sharing. What a fantastic theme for this month’s Recipe ReDux, the first blogger recipe challenge founded by dietitians.  It’s estimated that Australian’s eat out 2.5 times per week and as a result we are seeing a huge change towards casualised menus with an emphasis on small items and shared plates. I love entertaining this way at home and recently had a bring-a-plate passata party as part of Ceres Fair Food Crowdsaucing Day.  The aim of the day was to bring people together in Melbourne to make passata from organic, locally grown tomatoes to preserve Italian tradition and ..read more

Hello lovelies. A little quiet patch between blog posts as I’ve been busy over on our sister site Storehouse Blog Directory and getting ready for the 33rd Dietitians Association of Australia conference kicking off today. Follow the news with #DAA2016. Acclaimed chef and restauranteur, Alla Wolf Tasker has just finished her opening address with a very strong message about food provenance, which made me remember to share with you our latest Scoop Nutrition project, a raspberries and blackberries health overview on behalf of Horticulture Australia Innovation. There is a growing body of ..read more

It was Lance Rosen’s passion for food that had me hooked, well before he invited me out the back to show me his smoker.  As the owner and pioneer of one of Melbourne’s first American style BBQ restaurants, Lance was on to this hot food trend before it was hipster.  If you have been hiding under a hickory log, you may need reminding that Texas BBQ is tipped to be a top trend of 2016.  So it’s no surprise to see that following the success of Big Boy BBQ outlets in Melbourne that Lance has now released an amazing cook book, Temples of BB ..read more

Gosh, another year?!  I honestly can’t believe we are celebrating six years at Scoop Nutrition.  Blogging years are like dog years and we are getting very grown up now! Today is also the first anniversary of Storehouse Blog Directory.  Storehouse was my shift in focus away from showcasing local talent through guest posts and Sub of the Months and towards our very own collaborative community.  It has been an exciting year, which has seen our membership grow to over 100 members of talented and qualified nutrition experts and bloggers. To celebrate our anniversary, w ..read more

One of my very first post, almost 6 years ago now, was how I so wish that I’d been born a sister from an Italian Mister.  Well, actually Greek or Swedish would have been fine too. Anything, more multicultural than my 6th gen Aussie Scottish stock. Absolutely, anything. Now I’m getting older and wiser and learning to appreciate my roots. But that doesn’t mean I can’t join in the Melbourne Tomato Festival in absolute gusto. It’s been an absolutely glorious Summer Sunday spent with my girlfriend Bec, talking to producers, eating burrata and tasting so many varietie ..read more

Hello lovelies! I’m back revived after a digital detox over Christmas and Jan. It’s always so healthy to take a step back to reflect and recharge. But there is just so much hot and happening in food and nutrition trends to drag me away for too long. This month’s Recipe ReDux challenge is to try something new. And even though I can pick up injera bread in the next suburb made the traditional Ethiopian way, I haven’t caught on as yet to this relative newcomer in the craze for ancient, gluten free grains and seeds. Chef crush. There I’ve said it. My not so secret, secret is out. You can have your movie star swoon any day. My heart palpitates for men in kitchens. But before you get worried about Mr Surfer Dude’s position in my life, I can reassure you that my crush is admiration from afar. It’s not so much about what chefs do with their hands. (Well actually there is that). But it’s more about their energy. Their creativity. Their quest for flavour. And in many instances, their minds.   And on that level, Magnus had me all shook up. You would have to be lying under a snow-covered log in deep da ..read more

As we start to wind down 2015, it’s time to look back over a very busy year in food and nutrition. One of the biggest trends that will stick in my memory is the coconut craze. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked my opinion on coconuts and saturated fat? Is coconut water in a green smoothie the best sports drink? Coconut water is a source of electrolytes so it can be good for hydration. But the jury on saturated fat and heart health is still sitting. For me, it’s always about choosing foods close to the natural source and as close as possible to how they are cooked and enjoye ..read more
