So can we ask that the organisers of events please put in a report of the day with a few lovely photos so that we can share this with ..read more

In Memoriam: Iain Oughtred
Scottish Coastal Rowing

In 2008 the Scottish Fisheries Museum approached Iain Oughtred to design a boat for 4 rowers and a cox, to be made from a kit by Alec Jordan.  Iain chose the shape of the Fair Isle Skiff, a traditional Shetland boat used for fishing off Fair Isle in the open Atlantic. This boat has amazing seakeeping qualities, which is just as well since they used to carry stones as ballast and none of the crews could swim.  Iain grew up in Sydney and sailed, built and designed fast sailing di ..read more

The SCRA gathers incident reports from clubs on a wide range of aspects. Having looked at 3 similar incidents this guidance and learning points is shared to all clubs. Together with the help of the clubs much of the learning outcomes specified by them are similar and should be shared to the wider skiff community as it may help. In one instance a crew member sadly had a heart attack shortly after finishing rowing. The person involved made a full recovery, thanks to the sharp actions of the crew involved. The club have kindly sent us the following which they have adopted for future use: “We sha ..read more

Nairn Regatta Results
Scottish Coastal Rowing

Nairn Coastal Rowing club ran its first ever skiff regatta on the 16th of September. The only exception to the keep it simple rule was in deciding to have a course with lanes rather than single turning buoys; while this may have made umpiring more straight-forward, it certainly gave Robbie Gordon, course layer-in-chief, a significant challenge ..read more
