Why is my internet slow? Ever wondered if its your internet or wi-fi that is the issue? Lots of businesses and home users get frustrated with their internet, struggling with slow connections and multiple dropouts. I often read comments from people on blogs and forums where they will say something along the lines of “I’ve got full signal on my Wi-Fi, but my internet is so slow” why is that? There is obviously some confusion which i’ll attempt to clarify in simple, plain English. To do that first we need to clarify two technical terms that are important in this particular case. Why is my internet slow? Here we are in 2022 and rubbish broadband is still the most common conversation we have business owners. Why is that? Even as the deployment of Fibre broadband (FTTC) expands, many business owners are still left frustrated with the state of their business internet connection, what can you do, if anything? Well, there are a few of things to remember. FTTC was devised as a residential product so you won’t find it available on many larger industrial areas. If you’re on a smaller industrial area surrounded by residential property then you might be lucky, but if you don’t h ..read more

Are you working from home? Relax….Schools out for summer, Alice Cooper has made a few for dollars with extra airplay in America and Mums & Dads all over the UK are thanking their lucky stars that home schooling is over. And I bet a few of them have realised that the teacher wasn’t the problem, turns out the teacher was right, little Johnny is a little shit after all. I remember being a kid and going to my local town centre and being really frustrated that I’d only just broken up from school and yet all the shops were urging Mums & Dads to get us ready for “Back To School”.  ..read more

Working from home? In our last blog article at the start of April, we asked if homeworking was going to be the new normal? In the month that has nearly passed and if you believe what the scientist and politicians are telling us, this current situation looks like that it could go on for quite some time, maybe the next 12 months or more. As with all things this will affect different people in different ways. If you ‘re on a construction site for example, then your on-site presence is essential, but if you a desk jockey its quite likely you’ll be pushing your pencil from your home office for quit ..read more

Working from home…Is This The New Normal? After the initial rush to set up VPNs, remote desktop and IP telephony, much of the country’s workforce is now settling down to another week of home working. The on-going situation is not clear but it’s likely that social distancing will remain for quite some time. We may well be looking at home working for many months and once business owners are used to this, some may decide that they do not need their current premises. Add to this the fact that BT Openreach are going to have an enormous backlog of work IF they return to normal business on June ..read more

If you’re thinking about moving offices this year you’ll no doubt have a long list of things to do. Top of that list will be find the actual premises themselves and that’s no small achievement. Once you’ve found the premises, negotiated yourself a great deal and handed it over to your solicitor then all the fun stuff can start, but don’t be picking the carpet just yet. The good thing is none of those pitfalls or mistakes are new, they’ve all been made before so take a l ..read more

Are you fed up with slow internet speed? Ever thought maybe a 4g or 5g SIM could be the answer? If your business is in a rural or remote location, you’re most likely making do with a slow internet speed. Whilst you might be able to get by, just getting by isn’t good enough in today’s digital, “always on” economy. We’re all doing more and more on-line, we’re running our phones over the internet, our accounting software, our CRM not to mention the basics like email and web surfing. Not forgetting the essentials like Spotify & Netflix, come on, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love catching up on ..read more

Data Cabling. For many enterprises, copper wire remains the material of choice for data cabling. Variations in manufacture, shielding materials, and other factors result in there being a range of grades or categories, each with different levels of noise resistance, transfer speeds, backwards compatibility, physical robustness, and cost efficiency. Anticipated length of use, desired performance levels, network configuration and physical considerations will all influence the choice of which category of data cabling to use. The fast and stable transfer of information is a vital part of any busin ..read more

Is this the end of the line for ISDN Phone Lines?
LG Networks Blog
by Stuart Smallcombe

ISDN has been the backbone of the business telecommunication network since the 1980s providing service to business of all sizes. Offering far more capacity than analogue lines and faster data connections (prior to the arrival of ADSL) ISDN became the “go to” solution for business telephony. Available in two flavours, ISND2 worked well for smaller business requiring 2,4,6 or 8 lines with its bigger brother, ISDN30 servicing systems needing between 8 and 30 lines (and multiples thereof). Both versions of ISDN offered the end user greater reliability, more capacity and access to some ground-break ..read more
