,Intro By Janx... 4 years ago a kid in U16s reached out to me with a common kind of question; "I just read your article on the individual workouts with Joel and Isaac and how athletes can properly incorporate drills to their needs. I know you said that you only tend to work with people that you know and coach but I was hoping you would be able to give me some advice or drills I could work on?" - Luca Barei, September 2019 The kid reaching out was a kid who I had seen playing and just had that clear love for the game. He was a skilled, lengthy kid with the type of profile you think has a real c ..read more

Preface by Janx From the outside looking in, the athletes we see in the bright lights often make it look easy. They seem to go down some pre-ordained path to get to where they are and in reality that is rarely the case. Josh Green will play American Football in the Pac-12 this coming season. Yes, that Pac-12. The Power 5 conference. In a sport that is the national sport in the sports-loving country of the United States. This achievement is phenomenal if you are an American, living on home soil, who had always played football and developed through the system there, gifted with gifts to excel in ..read more

PICTURE: Working out with a combination of pros and upcoming junior guys. All the content in this article is based on the recent High Performance Hoops Network Skill Development podcast series. Like many ideas and initiatives at HPHN this one started off with a simple idea followed by action. From these actions results and outcomes are delivered to our stakeholders and supporters. It started with a brief conversation with Gab Saldavia who contacted me to get some insights on skill development. Gab is a student of the game and I am certain he is picking the brains of a range of people to get t ..read more

Jimma Dau | My pathway; we don’t always need to follow the beaten track
High Performance Hoops Network
by Andrew Jantke

Preface Jimma Dau is without a doubt one of the best prospects out of South Australia (period). Like many of the absolute top tier athletes coming out of South Australia, he has not always had it gifted. He got cut from teams, he didn’t make teams, has not gone down the traditional pathway. But alas through his God-given talents, and sheer work ethic and persistence he will emerge to be hot property into the NBL and beyond once his collegiate career is completed. His humility is amazing, just a kid that quietly has been chipping away, never perturbed, and just focussed on the day to day proces ..read more

Preface by Janx.... Over the coming weeks and months, just like we've done in the past, we will be featuring articles on the storys of various young athletes striving to develop and grow their games, seeking opportunities to play at the next level and achieve their dreams. But first, to give some context on this athlete we tell a story that may seem unrelated at first..... When meeting college coaches you hear some really cool and interesting stories from them. One such story we were told over lunch was the time an international flight was grounded for 2 hours, whilst waiting for the college c ..read more

Dealing with COVID-19 There is no doubt that these are unprecedented times. There is no rule book for Governments to use to make decisions, and little ability to forecast what happens next. I am sure that in the scheme of our lives, this will be over quickly, and things will get back to normal. I worry though about the by-product of this virus. On the one hand, obvious concerns are the wellbeing of elderly family members and also the economic impact on our sport and the wider community. On the other hand, there is also the consideration on the athletes I work with in their ongoing development ..read more

Tom Giles | Holistic development in basketball
High Performance Hoops Network
by Tom Giles

Preface by Coach Janx... Having coached some great players and people over the years I would say that Tom Giles is one of my favorite former players. Embracing the game of basketball as a tool for personal, holistic development, and as a skilled 7 footer he was able to play at high levels too, be it for South Australia at U20s, Premier League for the Eastern Mavericks, the Australian Basketball Academy based out of Melbourne, US High School basketball with Lincoln High School or spending time on NBL training squads with the Adelaide 36ers and Newcastle Falcons. I am proud of Tom and the values ..read more
