You need to understand the churchyard and cemetery regulations as they differ between regions. You will need to make an application for permission to erect a headstone or memorial.

It is important to take your time when deciding on the design of a hand carved memorial or headstone. You need to reflect on the life of the person and will need space and time to think and decide on what you would like. Nothing should be rushed.
Hand carved memorials and headstones are unique and no two designs are the same. It is a slow and meticulous process which allows variation and choice compared to the mass market machined and templated memorials and headstones on offer.

I have now introduced a Half Day Stone Letter Carving Course from 09.30 to 13.00 as a Taster Session to introduce people to this ancient skill.
The course is open to all levels and tuition is outside but under cover. Breaks and Lunch are taken at the onsite cafe Milk. The course is open to individuals and groups of two people at flexible times throughout the year in agreement with the workshop.

The courses are held at The Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop throughout the year at flexible times depending on availability at the workshop but not on Sunday or Monday.
