I really liked this book. I wasn't sure at first if it was considered a middle grade or young adult, but I think it could be either. Overall I really i found this story delightful and fun. The setting is written with a lot of atmosphere and it's very easy to picture the scenes as they are happening. Everything is so imaginative. Even the character names are thoughtful. The story is very unique overall. I've never really read a book with this concept before. It sort of reminded me of The Testing...but its a lot different too. All of the character's are written well and have great personalities ..read more

While I’m sad to see Halloween end I’m super happy for November (my birthday month) and the start of the holiday season. I may have been a bit ambitious on October’s TBR and readathons (the usual really), so for November I plan on scaling back on the required reads and doing more mood/optional reading. This book struck a cord very close to home for me. Having to deal with alcoholism within my own family and being a Psychology Major, I feel I can better relate to the struggles and emotions in the story. The overwhelming theme in the book is a woman's fight to keep her child safe while still struggling to come to terms with her relationship and responsibilities to her abusive husband. I saw this very struggle as a child growing up, so i'm very familiar with how damaging it can be and all of the ways it can play out. One thing I've been seeing in other reviews is how a lot of people think that ..read more
