Being the proud Mum of two gorgeous teenage daughters, Gemma in University and Kyra in 6th Form, I feel like our home is constantly in study mode as somehow it always feel like we have exams looming.  I’m not a helicopter Mum, I leave my girls to do their own thing during these times, but I do feel responsible for what they eat whilst studying (even Gem at Uni) as good nutrition is so important for maximum brain function – I don’t need to tell anyone this as we all know all it, right?! What we also all know is that there is nothing better than to hit the books with a little comfort food, and c ..read more

Bramley Apple Cake with Coconut Caramel

This recipe is a firm family favourite during winter.  It is the ultimate comfort pudding served warm with a scoop of ice-cream and a generous drizzle of caramel after a hearty meal or served cold as cake for a celebration or afternoon tea. Somehow this image ended up looking like a scene from a Halloween table, but don’t be scared off making it, trust me it is so quick and easy. The coconut caramel sauce finishes it off with a delicious lush velvet texture. Keep a spoon handy for an extra few cheeky dunks ..read more

Guess what!!  You can have fun with your food whilst keeping it clean and healthy.  Why is it that vegans have such stunning Instagram accounts with beautiful food photographed with flowers and gorgeous colours and Paleo folk post is just plain old food!!  Are we just more serious than vegans, naaahhhh can’t be?  It certainly cannot be the food because these gorgeous unicorn coconut ice bites are super delicious yet remain well within the Paleo paradigm, actually they can also be keto if you leave out the maple syrup.  Granted vegans do eat more fruit than us, but the amount of berries that it ..read more

Poached Pears in Mulled Wine

I just adore pears…and wine, so what could be a more perfect pudding than poached pears. These pears are a little different because I bought a few extra bottles of mulled wine after the Christmas rush and put them aside for a rainy day, or a snowy day in February. Why mulled wine? Well, all the flavours that you would otherwise add to poached pears are already in the wine, so literally nothing to add except pears. Now, I know that there are people out there who dislike mulled wine, some say it tastes like potpourri, sadly I’m not one of them. I’m such a sucker for a glass of warm mulle ..read more

Well, it is 2019 and let’s just say that my past few weeks of the festive season have definitely been more 20% than 80%, but do you know what…I loved it and I’m very happy with that! No regrets at all! That being said, the time has come to accept that the holidays are now over and the reality of work and eating properly is what I need to face. I can’t say I’m not unhappy about it as I love routine, and there is only so much lounging around watching Netflix with a one hand on the remote and the other in a bag of crisps that I can do before I start to miss photographing and cooking. Righ ..read more

Kombucha Poached Smoked Gammon

This dish is just the bomb!  For many many years I used to make the Christmas gammon by chucking in a 2ltr bottle of coke and boiling it for a few hours (explains a multitude of health problems).  After turning Paleo I started to look for a healthier alternative but something that still had the fizz – enter kombucha.  What I love about using kombucha is that it adds the sweetness, okay…granted maybe not nearly as much as coke, but it is perfect for our adjusted taste buds and it’s incredibly healthy for the gut.  Christmas is a time for splurging so any good bacteria probiotic for the gut is a ..read more

Boozy Christmas Nice Cream Cake

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this in any previous posts, but I come from a long blood line of ice-cream lovers!  My dad is not interested in any pudding besides a bowl of ice-cream, I’m still trying to work out if it is because he was a war baby or maybe just deprived as child…whatever the reason Christmas was always more about the ice-cream than the pudding.  My poor Mum would have to ensure she had loads of freezer space to allow an extra tub of ice-cream, any flavour would do, just as long as Dad had a whole tub to himself (I’m not kidding!). Being an ice-cream ‘take it or leave it’ kind ..read more

“It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas”…. Woohoo my favourite time of the year!!  I remember as a little girl, my folks would turn Christmas into the most magical time for us, my brother and I would always decorate the tree together, and then on Christmas Eve we would go to bed early bursting with excitement.  My parents would then spend the rest of the night decorating the living room from top to bottom.  We would wake up in the morning to find streamers hung and twirled in colour co-ordinated pattens, twinkling lights in every corner, candles burning, loads of presents, and then before ..read more

Christmas Cupcakes with a Surprise Filling

I’m still trying to come up with a name for these because Christmas cupcakes sounds really blah (which they are anything BUT)…someone on my Instragram suggested cuppies because they really are a beautiful marriage between an almond cupcake and mince pie.  Being fortunate enough to live in the country and down the road from the best farm store ever, I manage to a find a few tubs of grass-fed raw cream.  This cream is like liquid manna and utterly gorgeous and silky smooth with a beautiful yellow colour – you know where the name of the colour originated, not the white stuff we buy in the superma ..read more
