Review: PBERG, King’s Head Theatre
There Ought To Be Clowns

Prenzlauer Berg Players presents Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare brings a raucous energy to the King’s Head Theatre “Changing Verona to Berlin is preposterous” From the minute you walk into PBERG to see rival foodcarts branded with Montague Mettwurst and Capulet Currywurst, then you know that this isn’t going to be your regular take on Romeo and Juliet. For to give it its full title, this is Prenzlauer Berg Players presents Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, written by Henry Barker and performed by a troupe of East 15 final year students. The Prenzlauer Berg Players are indee ..read more

TV Review: Red Eye
There Ought To Be Clowns
by Ian
2d ago
Red Eye proves a decent if somewhat unoriginal TV thriller, starring Richard Armitage, Jing Lusi and Lesley Sharp “It promises to be a relaxing and uneventful flight” New ITV thriller Red Eye inevitably struggles to stand out in a crowded market. The Idris Elba-led Hijack was only last year and being both a Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams fan, memories of the effective 2005 film thriller also called Red Eye linger long in this household at least. This Red Eye does find its own (flight)path to tread but the result, whilst watchable, doesn’t feel particularly inspired. Written by Peter A Dowli ..read more

Film Review: Wicked Little Letters (2023)
There Ought To Be Clowns
by Ian

Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley lead the sprightly Wicked Little Letters “This story is more true than you’d think” Truth be told I let the Guardian panning Wicked Little Letters twice over guide me in terms of not going to see this rightaway, but when will I learn that critics don’t often know what they’re talking about. Written by Jonny Sweet from a true story, it has an uncomplicated charm to its ineffably Britflick period style and a quality cast having a wry bit of fun in delivering it – period swearing turns out to be quite fruitily funny. Set in the Sussex town of Littlehampton in ..read more

Review: Street Songs – A Busker’s Tale, Golden Goose Theatre
There Ought To Be Clowns
by Ian

Some fantastic musicianship underscores the humble charm of Street Songs – A Busker’s Tale at the Golden Goose Theatre “If you’re not playing You’re not earning” As SplitLip celebrate the extraordinary success of Operation Mincemeat winning Best New Musical at the Oliviers, much has rightly been made of its developmental journey to the West End, through any numbber of shorter runs at fringe theatres, refining and refining the show. I’m not necessarily predicting the same trajectory for Street Songs – A Busker’s Tale (but if it does happen, you heard it here first ) but rather pointing out the ..read more
