Having returned from her week as a guest on Leader, Lou Bolter decided to put pen to paper to describe her experience of sailing to the Isles of Scilly. It was her first holiday of this kind…   The beautiful old Brixham fishing trawler ‘Leader’ was built in the WA Gibbs shipyard in Galmpton Creek, on the river Dart, Devon in 1892 . . . and she’s still sailing.   She is now part of the Brixham based Trinity Sailing Foundation. Leader, Provident, and Golden Vanity will be taking part in The Brixham Heritage Rally next month and you can join us.   Organised by Brixham Yacht Club, the heritage fleet – and some visiting historic vessels – will be heading out for a sail across Torbay. It is a sail-in-company social event, with the classic boats sailing a course encompassing the various racing marks located in the bay.   Leader and Provident have been chartered for the event but we are inviting people to join Golden Vanity on Saturday, September 14, between 10am and 5pm. VISITORS to a Devon art fair have helped raise £600 for the Trinity Sailing Foundation. The Westcountry Art Fair – Art Ashcombe – showcased a range of artists exhibiting painting, photography and sculpture pieces. A percentage of money raised from sales have been kindly donated to support the charity which aims to change the lives of disadvantaged children, from across the UK, through sail training programmes. A fundraising weekend is to take place next month in Brixham with all the proceeds going to Golden Vanity. The Queens Arms, in Station Hill, plays host to The Charity Art Auction Weekend between Friday, July 19 and Sunday, July 21. There is official viewing evening on the Friday, live music on the Saturday, and a BBQ on the Sunday — with the actual auction taking place at 2pm — ahead of a performance by local band Buried Hedz. The Trinity Sailing Foundation has been awarded £10,000 in National Lottery Funding. The money, raised by players for good causes, is being distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund. The sailing charity, which takes hundreds of disadvantaged young people to sea each year, is one of 114 Devon community organisations who were awarded a total of £2.6 million in National Lottery funding. Visitors to the 2019 Torbay Airshow are being offered the best seats in the house — on board a 111-year-old sailing vessel. Guests are being invited on board Golden Vanity (1908) for the day on both Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, between 10am and 5pm.
