“Did you know you can rent a camel?” Adrienne Diercks asked me during the long format part of the program at last Friday’s Good Leadership Breakfast. Her question, was in response to my question: What pivot points in your life led you to start Project Success? “I was riding a camel through the Great Pyramids of Egypt, thinking…I think every student needs an experience like this. And that’s why I started Project Success and dedicated my career to inspiring young people to dream about their future.” Adrienne and I first met 25 years ago. I was working with a client whose goal was to establish a ..read more

Natalie Stute, Chief Human Resources Officer for Gainwell Technologies, was the speaker at the Good Leadership Breakfast last Friday, April 29. Good Leadership Enterprises

Twelve days ago was the launch of the Good Leadership Breakfast version 3.0. The pandemic accelerated the use of interactive technology in how we all work and play, so, we were compelled to incorporate online and app-based research into the Breakfast model. We polled a group of professionals from all across the US and then compared that data to the data collected in the ballroom. Our fantastic coach Kelsey Meyer Schalkle facilitated the conversation. Two powerful questions: One poll question was, “Since the pandemic began, do you feel like your team members know you personally and professiona ..read more

Drama and Accountability
Good Leadership Enterprises

Is office “drama” hurting your team’s accountability? First, the context: anyone paying attention to society these days understands there are multiple reasons why people are on edge: Inconsistent masking policies, varying Work-from-Home and Return-to-Office policies, home-testing when anyone has the sniffles, and the increase of negative/toxic news in politics and world affairs. We like to call all of these things “wonky.” There’s a lot of wonkiness right now. Expecting accountability Organizations need accountability to thrive. Lately, we’ve heard from leaders worrying about accountability i ..read more

What do you mean by “Alignment?”
Good Leadership Enterprises
by Paul Batz

This week in a video call, the Good Leadership coaching team was challenged with the question: What does it really mean to be “aligned,” anyway? It’s a legitimate question because the word “alignment” means as many things as the word “strategic” in the business lexicon. Here’s how we answered:   Alignment is when everyone on the team has negotiated and agreed upon: Vision (7 years out), Breakthrough Goals (3 years out), the strategies to get there, the values to guide our behaviors and decisions, and the Top 3 Can’t Miss Priorities for the team over the next 12 months.   There’s a lo ..read more

Good Leadership Enterprises

Terry Rasmussen is the President and CEO of Thrivent, and was the speaker at the Good Leadership Breakfast last Friday morning. We heard how she became a dental hygienist at the suggestion of her father, then had a career as a trial lawyer, then General Counsel, on her way to the CEO role. We mused about the idea: there’s no straight line from where we were to where we are today.   So who is Thrivent?  Thrivent is a diversified financial services company that helps people discover their purpose so that they can lead lives of meaning and gratitude. Terry and her team guide the growth ..read more

As the Good Leadership Breakfast continues to evolve, we are keenly focused on helping our speakers identify their success habits, so they can share them with you! Terry Rasmussen is yet another successful executive who grew up on a farm. And she’s yet another example of how there is no straight line from childhood to becoming a CEO.
