Appreciation … of Water

March 22nd 2024 was the annual World Water Day which aims to raise awareness and inspire action to tackle water and sanitation crises.1 This year it focused on the theme, ‘Leveraging Water for Peace.’  In a statement by the European Commission, this is explained: ‘As water scarcity intensifies, increased competition for dwindling freshwater resources threatens stability among and within nations through conflicts, displacement, or migration. And water is also far too often used as a weapon of war.’ 2 When I lived in the West Indies, I developed a healthy appreciation of wat ..read more

Embracing ‘Niksen’ – The Dutch Art of Doing Nothing

‘Niksen’ is the Dutch art of consciously doing nothing, a practice which apparently contributes to happiness, productivity and creativity and the Dutch are said to be one of the happiest peoples in the world.1 Niksen is not the same as mindfulness. It doesn’t require you to focus your entire attention on the present moment (which takes concentration and can be tiring for some); neither is it the same as meditation which, for example, requires deliberation on a mantra. Niksen allows you to think (or not) about anything you want. Your mind can just wander. Niksen, n ..read more

The news is currently full of despair – human misery from wars, economic hardship and climatic disasters. When bombarded by such negativity it can be hard for us to remain positive and we can feel hopeless. As energetic beings in this energetic world, we are bound to feel this misery and it will bring us down too. Right? Wrong. This is not inevitable. We can step up and help, whether Healer Practitioners or not. The world needs us to help redress the negativity and rebalance the energies of our world. By raising the energetic vibration of the world this will help to improve matters for all. We ..read more

Renaissance Not Retirement! Revealing the Healer Within – Part 3

Eureka! Training as a healer with Omnes made everything make sense. Why didn’t I know about the human energy field before?  I was aware of the need to nourish and exercise my body and mind, but totally unaware of the other vital (and most neglected) part of me – my energy system, MY LIFE FORCE. But looking back, I did know about energy, I have actually worked with it all my life.  One of my teaching subjects was Anatomy and Physiology, so I was generally knowledgeable about the human body and its working systems.  Also, as a teacher walking into a classr ..read more

‘Spiritual but Not Religious’ – Where Do You Go for Guidance and Support?

I had an interesting discussion with a Christian Hospital Chaplain recently about differing viewpoints of those who adhere to a religion and those who describe themselves as ‘spiritual but not religious’. It was a long and interesting conversation. One of the many issues we talked about was that if you are interested in a religion, then it is likely that you have somewhere and someone to approach if you have spiritual questions. This is not necessarily the case if you are ‘spiritual but not religious’. There is apparently no obvious place to go for impartial discussion and spiritual developmen ..read more

A Mysterious Encounter

I imagine most people’s image of an angel is a majestic, other-worldly figure with huge white wings – or perhaps the fat baby cherubs of Renaissance art. My own experience was rather more high tech but no less extraordinary. It happened one morning, many years ago now, when I was directing a documentary for ITV. The programme was about people who claimed to have had personal encounters with angels – inevitably a challenging subject for a film since our interviewees had no proof of their experience and for visuals we obviously had to rely on paintings and sculptures. Our first day’s filming was ..read more

Holistic health can be described as the well being of mind, body and spirit. Yet what does it mean to be spiritually healthy, and how can it be encouraged? It is a question that has been addressed in many healthcare settings in recent years, and it is something all ‘spiritual’ healers should be knowledgable about. What are the healer’s intentions when healing, and what do they consider to be a successful outcome? A publication,‘ Your Spiritual Health Programme,’* sets out a practical approach for therapists, and for anyone with an interest in spirituality.  The booklet describes spiritual ..read more

The Benefits of Colouring as a Mindfulness Practice

Some people hear “mindfulness” and immediately think of sitting on a meditation cushion. But is that all it is?  As Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh explains in “Happiness,” we can embrace mindfulness anywhere. We can do very much the same things we always do—walking, sitting, working, eating, talking—except we do them with an awareness of what we are doing. Mindfulness is less about the action and more about the state of living in the present moment. Arts and crafts like colouring can become mindful if we want them to, carrying the many benefits of this intentional practice. It ..read more

A New Year – What are you going to do with it?
Omnes Healing Blog

On 1st January, you may have been one of the many people who made New Year’s resolutions – to lose weight, get fit, do a course to increase your knowledge about something which interests you, relax more, etc. These are all well and good, but do such New Year’s resolutions address what you are here for? They fill the time, avoiding your real purpose.  Most of us spend our lives filling it with ‘doing’ – work to make money, play to relax from work, cleaning the house, buying stuff to fill the house and so on. This doing takes up a lot of time; it can take a lifetime, in fact. A life c ..read more
