SALTWATER REPORT (GA COAST) On Friday, a couple of anglers bank fishing the Brunswick area caught 20 trout up to 21 inches (2 fish over 20 inches), a 13-inch flounder, and an 18-inch redfish. Nice January inshore slam! A Keitech gold flash swimbait and Flashy Jighead caught a half-dozen of their fish, while a regular jighead and bluegill flash Assassin Sea Shad produced the balance. On Monday an angler fished the Brunswick area and landed 27 trout up to 22 inches, a 14-inch black drum, and two 18-inch redfish. All of the trout were keeper-sized, but he released them. During November the coastal inshore action starts heating up to critical mass. Look for what we call the “Savannah Slam”: redfish, spotted sea trout and flounder. A pro tip to catching more inshore at this time is to rig live shrimp as bait. Most Georgia inshore species inhale shrimp because they are easy to eat, easy to kill, and abundant. Once the bite starts, you can switch to many assorted artificial shrimp patterns e.g. DOA, Gulp!, etc. Most if not all will work once feeding starts, but hey Bo they might even eat sweet pickles if you work them right.   You can catch southern sheepshead from the shore, a pier,  docks or boat with purple backed fiddler crabs. However, a boat increases your catch ratio by allowing you to go straight to the herd. Using a 6-7ft medium action rod  with a light tip you can feel the delicate nibbles of a small sheepshead and the strike of a monster crab killer. A big sheepshead, likes crunching up the fiddler, it’s ok to let them chew on this for a couple seconds before lifting the rod tip. Wait until you feel the thump before setting the hook.
