Staircase Makeover

From builder grade to a custom staircase. While we picked out the red oak treads and risers, sanded and stained, our contractors ripped out the carpet and prepared the canvas. After they installed the treads and risers, we had a local welder custom make the iron rail and balusters based on an inspiration photo I showed and he did an amazing job, exactly how I imagined. After an electrician installed the pendant lights (changed recessed lights to pendants), this portion of the house was finally complete. Well, maybe one or two large paintings above the stairs and then it’s 100 percent complete ..read more

Dining Room Makeover

Next on the renovation list was the dining room. While it’s a small room and only needed minor updates like paint and change of light fixture, I think the transformation is still drastic. It just looks and feels like a different room. It’s the exact style I pictured for this space and it turned out amazing, simple, minimalist and modern. My vision for the entire house was to modernize the interior but also keep it traditional and functional. With that in mind, I wanted the space to feel clutter-free and clean. No extra decor, no bulky items, and no heavy furniture. The glass table was customi ..read more

DIY Under Staircase Makeover: Closet to Pantry
HOUSE OF MARK | A Lifestyle Blog Based In Los Angeles

During our kitchen renovation (see blog post here), we decided to move the pantry out of the kitchen. Instead, we turned our coat closet under the staircase into a functional and organized pantry. It’s in the hallway right behind the kitchen wall so the location is not too far from the kitchen. I don’t like clutter at all, which also means clutter on the countertops. To avoid that, I decided to have big storage baskets to include all my electronic gadgets like the juicer, processor, blender and so on. I take them out as needed and put them right back. We began the process by removing the one ..read more

Baked Crunchy Chicken with Hot Honey Sauce & Spicy Dip

Check out the reel here The crunchiest baked chicken you’ll ever have. I’ve been making this recipe for years and every time I do, they don’t ever make it to the serving plate. They’re gone straight from the sheet pan. It all started when one day the kids asked for some breaded chicken but I was out of breadcrumbs. And, so this is where the star of the recipe comes into play. Siete sea salt tortilla chips! The best replacement I had in the pantry at the time and I’m glad I did.  They’re light, airy but also crunchy. I’ve also made this recipe with their fuego flavor but I prefer the sea ..read more

Our first makeover reveal in our Vegas house is finally here, the FIREPLACE!!! When we moved to this house in August of 2019, we didn’t make changes right away. By the time we got accustomed to our new surrounding, got settled in and so on, a few months passed until we decided we were ready for our first DIY project. It was February of 2020 when we decided the fireplace would be the perfect first DIY project. I had saved fireplace inspiration photos on my Pinterest board for sometime, so I already knew what style we were going for. As soon as my husband figured out all the technical component ..read more

Let’s chat about coffee! It’s in our daily routine from morning to night. It’s delicious, it can be healthy for you if you are drinking the right stuff, and a great energy booster. I personally have at least a cup a day myself, starting off my morning with a hot latte then a mid-day pick me up with a cold iced latte. Have you ever questioned where your coffee beans are sourced and what methods are used to process it? Whether you make it at home or pick one up at your local coffee shop, it’s a thought you might want to consider and question because I’m here to tell you it can lead to a health ..read more

I can’t believe our baby is now three! THREE! Where does time go?! It feels like the other day we were celebrating his first birthday (here if you haven’t seen it). So, Lucas has been obsessed with Batman and Joker, for maybe about 6 months now. He’s starting to invite more character figures into his collection like Spiderman and Superman, but Batman is still his number 1 on the list. So, I just threw a quick set up together all Batman related and he LOVED seeing all his collections set up around the cake table. I ordered a simple (no decor) velvet cake from Whole Foods because I was planning ..read more
