I’m a new nontraditional student who’s returning to academia. I’m in love with IR and national security specifically. I like to focus on the Northern Africa region. I’m wondering if anyone can give me a basic outline on how to conduct independent research and the best way to go about publishing it. Or if you don’t want to explain at least point me in the right direction. Thanks so much!! submitted by /u/huckelberry333 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

TL;DR I am a second-year MAIR student at SAIS who applied and enrolled with 3+ years of experience. SAIS has given me some great opportunities, and I've met some incredible people, but the MAIR program, in particular, does not serve the needs of older students. The current average age of the incoming class is 23, much younger than competitor programs (Georgetown, Fletcher, SIPA), and the SAIS experience is suffering as a result. My background and goals I studied IR and econ as an undergrad, spent 1+ years living overseas through a fellowship program, and worked in the US in the private sector ..read more
