Berman Center for Humanity, Tolerance and Holocaust Education was officially dedicated to counteract that disturbing trend. Based at Towson University, the center aims to collaborate with Maryland educators to advance the mission of Holocaust education.  The center — l ..read more

Dr. Scott Rifkin: The Dilemma for Jews

In 2020, the majority of American Jewish voters cast their votes for Joe Biden. He represented the liberal, socially conscious vision most Jews consider to be at the core of their beliefs. There were exceptions, of course. Some voters saw the Republicans as more likely to keep taxes down. Others, particularly the more observant, saw Trump as more likely to support Israel and school tax vouchers. Pew Research estimates that 70% of American Jews voted for Biden and 27% for Trump. Prior to Israel’s war with Hamas, estimates were for an even higher turnout for Biden among American Jews. The curren ..read more

I go back the full 70 years with this Baltimore Orioles baseball team, so I’ll drop a name here that some of you won’t know: Paul Richards. All he did was build a foundation that created a dynasty. Richards managed the O’s from 1955, their second season of existence, through 1961 when they were about to start a 20-year run as the winningest team in all of Major League Baseball. Paul Richards managed the Orioles from 1955 to 1961 and laid down the foundation for the team’s future success. He started doing this with some more names you might not know: Billy O’Dell, Jerry Walker, Milt Pappas, Dav ..read more

Gail Simmons’ Matzah Ball Soup Recipe Will Conjure Memories of Family Love

By Gail Simmons This recipe was first published on The Nosher. Although my Grandma Snazzy, my mother’s mother, seemed to barely eat a thing (to this day, I am convinced she subsisted on toast and coffee), she was a wonderful Jewish home cook. One of her specialties was chicken soup, which she lovingly made from scratch for Friday night dinners and Jewish holidays. Loaded with carrots and tender poached chicken, it was simple yet deeply delicious, and I looked forward to it all week long. Today I make my own “Grandma Snazzy Soup,” adding a few twists of my own. One slurp of this heart ..read more
