The Fry Lie That Won’t Die
Summary
McDonald’s French Fries are NOT gluten free in the US. This is a fallacy that seems to rear it’s ugly head frequently in Facebook groups. One of the fries’ 19 (!) ingredients is Natural Beef Flavor, made from wheat. Not only that, McDonald’s announced the fries are fried in the same fryer as their new donut sticks.

Oat flour seems to be showing up in more gluten free products then ever. But even if a package is labeled gluten free, we have to dig further to determine the source of the oats used in the flour.
Jules Shepard (aka GF Jules) has the perfect example. Kellogg’s has come out with an Eggo Waffle labeled Gluten Free on the box. However, the oats in the ingredient label don’t mention gluten free oats. Even if they did, we have to investigate further to determine if the oats are from a Purity Protocol to truly be deemed safe. Gluten Free Food at Camden Yards
If your heading to a Baltimore Orioles game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, there is no need to go hungry (or thirsty) if you are gluten free. The 2019 list of gluten free food and drink includes the return of crowd-pleasers Boog’s BBQ and Bacon on a Stick as well as Hard Ciders and gluten free Redbridge beer.
As always, make your dietary needs known early and often and ask the servers to change their gloves.
