Appleseed Yoga Blog

I remember very well this one time at camp when I was about 11. I just happened to take a picture (on my film camera) of these three other kids because they were matching and it was oh so cute in my 11 year old brain. Fast forward 8 years and I ended up living with two of them in first year university AND one is still my best friend to this day. Summer camp changes lives, it's just a fact. 3 reasons why our summer camp will change your kid's life: 1) Summer camp is where your kids make life-long friends, and who doesn't want a yoga friend? ? 2) Your kid will heighten their connection to n ..read more

Appleseed Yoga Blog
by Megan Snider

This beaded garland was one of the nature crafts from our Virtual March Break Camp last spring! It’s simple and fun to make, and the finished product is quite beautiful. These beads can especially be useful to share with your child during these pandemic days when routine has changed and anxiety can be high. I think I can safely say there are at least a few times in the day when at least one person in your family can use some down-regulation and focused breathing. Check out below for other sweet ways to use your garland! But first, let’s make one together. Beaded Garland Materials: -assortme ..read more

This blog post is written by Flora Jacquet (she/her), Appleseed’s French-Speaking Imaginative Yoga Storyteller. Find Flora in the Appleseed Virtual Studio weekly for her Toddler and Kids Yoga classes in French! What Flora wants for the next generation: My greatest hope for the next generation is that they find connection with other humans, the environment, and the world. You see, for me, yoga was an incredible tool to pursue this. When children practice yoga, it increases their confidence, builds concentration and strengthens their growing bodies. Yoga has a lot of social, emotional and cogn ..read more

We are not celebrating Canada Day today. They are 1323 children. Buried in schoolyards. And the number will rise. Today we invite you to join us in reflecting on the effects of colonialism on our nation.  Appleseed has received questions from our community asking us: “How do I share these atrocities with my children? They need to know, but I don’t want to traumatize them.” Here’s what we say: 1 ..read more

June's Appleseed Recommended Book: "I Am a Peaceful Goldfish" by Shoshana Chaim
Appleseed Yoga Blog

Shoshana Chaim’s book “I Am a Peaceful Goldfish”, is a wonderful children’s story filled with mindfulness and imagination! What I love most about @planttrainers debut storybook is that it encourages the reader (no matter what age) to notice their own emotions, and decide on a unique way to acknowledge and release them particularly through breath. Whether it be blowing like a fluffy dandelion, or with the gusto of an elephant, children are encouraged to find their own ways of using their breath to explore their emotions. The tempo of the story makes it ideal to read at any time, night or day ..read more
