I'm wondering how often western zoos actually get mammals from the wild. This could count the "rescue" loophole. For a bit of context, I'm aware of what went down with Tree Pangolins in US zoos (I actually know the person who bred them through social media) and the African Savannah Elephant imports. But I was wondering... Does that kind of thing happen often? Or do they come from breeding centers that import the mammals and breed them? Nowadays, catching them from the wild and taking them to zoo through multiple countries would probably be costly and difficult. Can zoos sell/give animals to people?
