A structure fire can double every minute, and someone who collapses from cardiac arrest loses 10% of the chance they’ll survive each minute before professional help arrives Given the high stakes when small measures of time can mean the difference, officials from the town of Hideout decided to provide funding for a temporary fire station equipped to serve their residents, even if it wasn’t included in the municipality’s budget. Now, with the temporary fire station weeks away from opening, they’re asking for the community’s help to cover the costs the town fronted. Saturday morning, they held an ..read more

Betty Diaries: In the eye of the tornado

I think of Park City as home. But last week, I was on a road trip Home to Rochester, New York. It’s a long drive. Something like 1,964 miles and change. Google Maps says it’s 29 hours. I can’t drive 55, but I also can’t drive much more than eight hours a day, so I chunk it up into four days and three overnight towns. Park City to Cheyenne. Cheyenne to Des Moines. Des Moines to Toledo. Toledo to Rochester. It was just me and my ride-or-die, Riley BB King, a small-but-mighty cairn terrier. I love the rhythm of the open road. The freedom of being on a journey and not knowing exactly what will hap ..read more

It’s not about the dogs. It’s really not about the house, either. I have no dog in this fight and remain pretty agnostic about the house itself. If it complies, it complies, and my opinion doesn’t matter. This is a story about much bigger stuff. The Shakespearian saga of the Princes, who own this newspaper, struggling to get a building permit for their house above Old Town, has drawn international media attention. It’s been covered in everything from the Daily Beast to The Times of London with varying degrees of snark. The stories have mostly been about Sasha & ..read more

Willful blindness to barbarism
Park Record Magazine

In recent years, there have been more and more preposterous ideas ranging from the Green New Deal’s needless austerity mandates to peaceful arson by the performance artists of BLM and Antifa. Entertainment acts organic to the Las Vegas strip are now performed in elementary schools. Joe Biden is president. And much, much more. As Voltaire once said, “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” Hamas, the “Islamic resistance movement,” has committed barbarous medieval atrocities of murder, rape, torture, infanticide and capture of non-combatants. New regulations for e-bikes could be coming to trails and pathways in Park City and the Snyderville Basin based on resident feedback received in a local survey. People who completed the survey largely supported electrically assisted bicycles and recognized the pros and cons. While most respondents said they felt safe overall, the majority called for more restrictions such as speed limits and additional enforcement.  Park City Municipal and the Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District partnered for the review to study residents’ thoughts about the current rules and allowances of e-bik ..read more
