Save off and modify a part in an assembly for a new project without affecting the original part or its original assembly.

I need to make a different version of a part used in other Solidworks assemblies. I do not want my new version to affect those existing other assemblies that use that part. I do not need any of the other components associated with the assembly the original part is in. What is the workflow to accomplish this? submitted by /u/tombj [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am trying to teach myself how to work with the flow simulation in the 2024 edition. I made a simple tube to understand better how pressure openings and goals work in this software. i wanted to know if its possible to make a goal in the tube without making a lid with pressure opening. And if someone has a good video explaining it at an intermediate level i would be very appreciative. I got the basics but for what i need to do i gotte get better. Looking for advice on internal hinges on a lofted round surface. Object is 3D printed and the opening angle limit is shown

I want the door to be able to swing open farther from the ~80degrees it has now to around 120-130 to be totally out of the way of the opening. I’ve modeled some compound hinges which worked well but they take up significant space inside and don’t print in place like these simple hinges. The hinge holes shown in both models and straight up and down and set to be the same distance from the door edge submitted by /u/CuddlyBoneVampire [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey everyone. I'm beginner level and currently working on an assignment. I need to create these slots with the given information and I can't figure it out. I've been stuck for almost an hour trying different things. The highlighted is what i need to do and below that is what I have. Am I missing information on this drawing? or is there some relation that I am not doing correctly. I"m not sure if the full project will help in what I'm doing wrong but just the highlighted is what I need. https://preview.redd.it/ikoks8f1lgwc1.jpg?width=1636&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c026053bf39be ..read more

Hey i was wondering if someone can help me CAD a 3D printed glider for a school project. The majority of my team has backed out on the project and another student and I are really interested in completing the project but we have very minimal CAD experience. I have basic designs that i made of the glider using OpenVSP. If anyone could help that would be highly appreciated and i am even willing to pay for help/tutoring on CAD. submitted by /u/afreny27 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Radial/cylindrical Scaling?

I've got the below arc and I'd like to stretch everything along the arc linearly from the center point. As you can see, I need to add .025 to one end, and it's mirrored about the centerline (essentially 0 distance change), and it is .025 to the other side. The angles were originally 45, 39, 17, and 11 degrees, and I manually scaled them to the values found in the image below. 45->45.25, then each angle by that 45.25/45 ratio. I feel like there has to be an easier method of doing this... almost like a direct edit move face to stretch everything along that arc. The arc is about 9.5 initi ..read more

Soldiworks PDM - can't view specific Checked In files within a Vault folder

Hey guys, got a weird issue. My user with admin permissions cannot view a few specific files within the Vault. Logging in as admin, they're definitely there and Checked In, but for some reason the user with admin permissions can't see them. I've already checked, they have full permissions for everything at the Vault root and they have Read/View working versions permissions for the file state. I also verified the user has Show file types set to Show all files in their settings. I even checked the settings for the original user who checked the file in to make sure they weren't set to only allow ..read more

Intake and exhaust runners

A friend and i are modeling a v12 on solidworks 2022 for a school project. Weve gotten pretty far, but were stuck on the cylinder head because we dont know how to make the intake and exhaust runners, that go from the side of the head into the cylinder. Can someone please explain how to do this? Ive researched a little, but there only seem to be videos on how to make intake and exhaust manifolds and not the runners themselves. Also, is it possible to join 2 canals into 1 port for a 4 valve design? Thanks submitted by /u/rhfnoshr [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
