Let’s talk about the Indonesian/Malaysian dessert called Martabak Manis, which closely resembles a Singaporean delicacy that is Min Jiang Kueh. The Indonesian variant is usually bigger, fluffier, and filled with toppings—a delicious treat that will delight your sweet tooth. I searched for famous places that offered authentic Indonesian Martabak Manis and stumbled across this joint, Smile Martabak. Their website says, “Singapore #1 Authentic Indonesian Martabak.” Quite a bold statement, if you ask me. I hope it is true.  I also read a few reviews, and I really like how one food critic pre ..read more

Besides for Victor’s Fried Chicken and Boon Kee Pork Porridge, the coffeeshop at Veerasamy Road also houses Mui Siong Minced Meat Noodles, a stall selling bak chor mee. Each dish is prepared using the freshest ingredients, and they are bound to satisfy your taste buds. Even though there weren’t any queues when we visited (on a weekday), we wouldn’t be surprised to find long queues on a weekend.   Their minced meat noodles were light and springy, with each strand of noodle coated with a thin layer of oil. Their sauced were also well-prepared, although you’ll need to mix the noodles and the sa ..read more

A new stall recently opened at Golden Mile Food Centre – the 3Keng Kolo Mee (山璟哥罗面). It is located on the second floor, near the staircase and the row of ATM machines. Just walk up the staircase, and you can easily see the cute 山璟哥 logo. According to their Facebook page, their noodles are made using the legendary Nantou Yi Mien Noodle recipe (南投百年意面) with about 130 years of history. This is what gives the noodles its springy look and feel, as well as its smooth and QQ texture. The formula also makes sure the noodles do not clump together, whether you are dining in, or having it to go. The noo ..read more
