A friend of mine who is not a woodwind player says he has been told or read that Doc Kupka, bari sax player for Tower of Power, had an extra key added to his horn to go down to low A-flat. All the internet references I can find say he plays a Yamaha YBS-62, and the pics of him he is playing a Low A version. No one mentions fingering down to A-flat, and I find that a little whimsical, anyway. Has anyone ever heard this legend?

(ignore the red note) Should I tongue every single one or make them like they're legato? This goes to all fast notes even out of this specific song

Does anyone know of anything interesting when it comes to pairing a synthetic reed with a metal mouthpiece? I'm thinking of getting both soon and wanted to know if I should or not.

I do have the money available to pay for one around the £500 price range but the problem would be convincing my parents to let me buy it. The other problem that comes up is th ..read more

I'm an intermediate Alto player and have been looking into getting a tenor for a while. I saw this one on Facebook marketplace for 1k. I've seen others online for around $1200 or more but those didn't have the rust and name etched in. The seller says it just needs some minor adjustments. What do you guys think?

I don’t know if this is the right subreddit to post this question on, but as a baritone saxophone player, do i have the same chance of making an audition compared to a trumpet or alto?
