I noticed this small chip and am unsure if it’s affecting my sound/ease of playing

I understand the whole “if it plays fine it probably doesn’t affect it thing” but this chip has been there since I purchased the mouthpiece (I didn’t notice until a couple days after and still rlly liked the piece so didn’t see any reason to return it but I am now dealing with inconsistent problems with just speaking of notes and tone pretty much everywhere below the register) I’m wondering, is this deformity/chip in this area of the mouthpiece something that would generally affect the sound/playability and if so is it fixable or am I fucked, I’ve had the mouthpiece about three months no ..read more

My band has just had the pleasure of having a saxophonist join. He's changed everything for us and we are all totally in love with the sax now. We've just released a single which he features heavily on. The whole song crescendos into a sax solo at the end, which I can't stop listening to! https://open.spotify.com/track/31mMwDDmdM7HWCodnj3Qyp?si=fb5056b1c44843c6 I've also made an 'All Sax' non-genre specific playlist which you can find below. I've tried to include as many genres as possible to show how versatile the sax really is. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Ocqq2w7rKLu3nIb6JTHUl?si=fb0 ..read more

Which reed should I use when upgrading from a Yamaha 4C to a Jody Jazz Jet 6

Just recently upgraded from a Yamaha 4C to a Jody Jazz Jet 6. So the tip opening is now a bit bigger and I am having a big struggle with producing sound and it sounds very scratchy when I play on the Jet (simply put I sound horrible, barely any sound, and like an absolute beginner. I usually use a size 3 classic Vandoren on my 4C. Should I move down to a 2.0 or 2.5 Vandoren ZZ or maybe even a 2.0 or 2.25 legere synthetic? I have been playing for roughly 10 years or so and I'm going for a jazzy bright sound. submitted by /u/Potential_Pause_6253 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi Everyone! I hope there are some people on this sub who have some experience with the model in the title. The thing is I found this saxophone at a local shop and I'm thinking of purchasing it. The main characteristics are the following: It is not specified by the seller (only that it's Selmer USA) but it really looks like the 156A (the Buescher-based with the bell extension). It is in perfect playing condition - it doesn't need any work of a repair tech; everything was repaired and set up pretty well (so there are no additional hundreds of dollars of costs right after purchase). Double reed to single reed... any tips?

Former somewhat adept bassoonist looking to pick up the saxophone 20 years after I stopped playing. I grabbed some Vandoren blue box and Essential Elements book 1 and I'm figuring I shouldn't have too much trouble more or less teaching myself, but I'm wondering if anyone has any tips that might be helpful to a double reed player picking up the sax? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I already know retraining my embouchre is gonna be one heck of an experience but I'm really looking forward to getting back into music. submitted by /u/cake_toss [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How much is this worth? What should I ask, where should I sell?

Very nice used Yamaha YTS-52 Tenor Sax. Don’t use and haven’t in years, got new pads and stopped playing. Very nice alligator type case which I was told is worth a little itself (I will try and find model if possible) along with another case for travel. Trying to just see how much I could get. Hello saxophonics Getting a new saxophone tomorrow, but I am scared of starting something and not following through with it. I want a sax partner to teach me the ropes or a beginner just like me to share and learn from each other. I believe having an accountability partner of a sort will be of great help to me. submitted by /u/Pharez_se [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is a King Cleveland 615 worth 100$ +30$ for gas

Is a king Cleveland 615 worth a 100 bucks and 30 bucks for gas? By my estimates it needs a new pad job, but all the keys work. Worst case is most of the pads being replaced and maybe new cork, I will also be buying a nice jazz mouth piece. I also am not a beginner I’ve played for 11 years on alto and bari. I am more gigging more currently and I need a tenor. The budget was 700 so I was probably going to get a used Jean Paul TS 400 or wait until I can find a deal on a Yamaha or other vintage horn. but I can buy this for 100 and do the pads myself, Than I can take the rest of the money and get ..read more
