We run a Magento based store selling a small range of products that rarely change after new lines are added/discontinued at the beginning of the year. These are added by our webguy from images and info we forward as required. We regularly accumulate individual or small amounts of dead stock, 3 of this, 7 of that etc., and I want to offer these for sale through the site without having to go through the formality of fully uploading to the regular pages. I'm thinking an editable pop up that I... Read more ..read more

Being asked to become a Director in a troubled company
UK Business Forums
by Airport_Rover
13h ago
Hi, I am seeking some guidance on what my liabilities would be if I were to accept a shareholder request to become an interim Director for a limited company and registered with Companies House. This would be for a short period of time 6-8 weeks, but I am concerned as to what my liabilities may be for any previous suspected nefarious activities or existing liabilities caused by the current director, who is about to be voted out. The shareholders have asked if I would fill the role... Read more ..read more

At what point do you look for something better than a basic business account and does it facilitate extra borrowing?

We currently have a basic business account with Santander, but we run much of our e-commerce business through online banks/wallets such as WISE to benefit from far better FX as much of our income and expenses are not in GBP. We also have borrowings with the "high street" alternative lenders (think Funding Circle, Lending Crowd, etc.), but are more or less capped out at what any of those lend. Santander doesn't provide loans of any note to those with business accounts as far as I can tell... Read more ..read more

I am a jewelry journalist and I also have a jewelry brand. I'm currently making an article about the cost of engagement rings and want to confirm or refute my opinion. It seems to me that in the last five years, the popularity of lab-created diamonds and moissanite has significantly reduced the check. Am I right ..read more

hello I haven't been in this situation before where I owed income tax on self employed income. Ususally have a couple thousand self employed and then the rest of my taxc free basic is made up on the PAYE through ltd co and the remaining in dividends. This year I have used up all my tax free allowance on PAYE. and have about 4K in profits on SE through a side gig. I heard a lot of murmours from self employed people that they have to pay their income tax up front 50% down for the year ahead... Read more ..read more

RM destroying parcels
UK Business Forums
by japancool

So we've had a couple of parcels sent via RM that they have destroyed. The reason was that they contained paint aerosols. Apparently, RM allow up to 2 aerosols per package - but not paint aerosols. So they destroyed the whole parcel. Now, you will say that we should have read their conditions of carriage more carefully, which yes, we should have done but we have sent them before without issues. So I'm wondering if we have any redress? I assume they must have opened the parcels to see what... Read more ..read more

Marketing to an email list

Hi guys, over the last 4-5 years I have obtained quite a few client email addresses. I am aware with GDPR I need to obtain permission to market to those email addresses. Previously I have used mailchimp for other small online businesses I had (integrates with quickbooks which is where the email addresses are). Would I be correct in thinking I could send out an email to all the contacts with an opt-in box, those who do so I can then send over an email once in a while offering any new... Refund to customer in next accounting period.

Hello, need a quick accounting advice, I am a freelancer and I had received some payment in the last accounting period for certain services, it then got into a bit of a dispute with the customer and I have to now refund the complete amount as agreed amicably. As I still haven't filed my self assessment for the last period and will be doing it shortly, do I have to still show it as income in the last year and refund in this year or it has settled itself and there is no need to consider it as... Hi, Ive completed some work for 2 customers ( 5-6 months ago) and i still have their parts with me.. 1 is a middle man who advised me that his customer will visit myself and pay direct £1500 2 is a customer who keeps saying he will pay but has yet to do so £2800 All items are worth more than the work undertaken/what they owe me. Can the items be sold to then pay my costs? I suspect the remainder will then go to the customer. Many thanks...J ..read more
