Today during a match I gave a player a YC for dissent (no sin bins in this comp). After blowing for full time, he came up to me and again began dissenting. I showed him a 2YC, and a red.
The LOTG say a player is sent off for:
receiving a second caution in the same match
I was under the impression that since the game was over, it wasn't in the match so the RC couldn't be shown (same logic as cards not carrying over to KFTPM or whatever the new abbreviation is now). I ended up showing the RC after recommendation from my ARs (more experienced than me), though I am doubting whether that was cor ..read more

After Modric missed, he kicked the ball into the stands. City supporters were slow to return it to the field. The referee didn't see it, because when Silva walked up to take the next kick, he looked around wondering why no ball was nearby to hand him. It seems like one of the ARs would have seen what happened, but maybe they didn't. Shouldn't Modric have been cautioned for delaying the restart?

When a goal is scored, ball is in the next and depending on the game state, there is potential for conflict as players from either side attempt to grab and take possession of the ball.
While I am aware that the team that scored no longer has any right to the ball, the restart belongs to the team scored upon, am I correct there isn't a specific rule about this?
Also, was there not some new language or advisory written a few years ago that guides referees on giving cautions to players from the scoring team who attempt to take the ball away from the goalkeeper (or some other player who has picke ..read more

I got my regional badge this year and want to continue to progress and earn my national badge and beyond. My question is what tournaments and events I need to be targeting to be seen by the right folks? I’m going to mls next events, far west regionals, working swpl, and some youth national team scrimmages. Mostly hoping some folks who’ve gone through the process can give some advice.

I was assigned AR2 for mens 11v11 adult league game Sunday night, pk is given for team A
Player on the team A encroaches before kick is taken, kick goes off the post, same player who encroached gets rebound and scores.
What is the correct call for the restart?

I was coaching and reffing at a tournament this weekend and it was a mess. In our division the first game started 10 minutes late. Then that game went to penalty kicks, and the next game started even later. From there it snowballed. I was coaching the following game, and we went to penalty kicks too, but I was referee on the field next door and they had to wait for me, so now both fields are running late. They ran and got another referee, when they realized what happened, so I missed that assignment and they had to fill his next assignment as well so we had a domino effect.
Here's what I'm go ..read more

What is your threshold for treating claims of referee bias as OFFINABUS versus some type of dissent/UB? Does it change based on age? For example, will you be more forgiving of a U12 versus a U17 versus a coach? Do you treat non profane statements differently, such as, "Call it both ways!"
Thanks for your thoughts!

So I've been referring since late January and I didn't really enjoy it mostly cause I wasn't the best referee in my first few games. Then I found my feet and I think I was doing pretty ok but a couple weeks ago I had to abandon a game and I feel like I might be in the wrong. I gave a player a second yellow for going into a challenge and kneeing the opponents neck to which it didn't look like it was on purpose as I don't think he was trying to knee him in the head but actually the body. I gave the player a yellow the linesman ran on the pitch the coach and parents also ran onto the pitch so I ..read more
