Should Book Bloggers Only Write Book Reviews?
Booked All Night | A YA Book Blog & Podcast
by J. M. Tuckerman

… No? Let’s think about this for a moment. Blogs need content. Frequent content. We’ve slowed down here at Booked All Night but we still post regularly. Imagine how many books we’d need to read if every post was a book review. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy reading and there have absolutely been books that I have read in a single afternoon… and also books that have taken me a month to get through (or ultimately decide to stop reading). When we’re on top of our game we post three times a week here. Best case scenario, that’s 3 books a week, or 1 per week per writer. That’s a lot to ask of someon ..read more

The Comeback

by J. M. Tuckerman

E. L. Shen’s The Comeback is a heartfelt, #OwnVoices middle-grade debut about a young girl trying to be a champ–in figure skating and in life. Twelve-year-old Maxine Chen is just trying to nail that perfect landing: on the ice, in middle school, and at home, where her parents worry that competitive skating is too much pressure for a budding tween. Maxine isn’t concerned, however–she’s determined to glide to victory. But then a bully at school starts teasing Maxine for her Chinese heritage, leaving her stunned and speechless. And at the rink, she finds herself up against a stellar ..read more

EXCERPT: Girlhood
Booked All Night | A YA Book Blog & Podcast
by Booked All Night

What does a teenage girl dream about in Nigeria or New York? How does she spend her days in Mongolia, the Midwest, and the Middle East? All around the world, girls are going to school, working, dreaming up big futures–they are soccer players and surfers, ballerinas and chess champions. Yet we know so little about their daily lives. We often hear about challenges and catastrophes in the news, and about exceptional girls who make headlines. But even though the health, education, and success of girls so often determines the future of a community, we don’t know more about what life is like for ..read more
