Curious to see what people's thoughts on Syfovre and Izervay are. Is anyone treating their patients with either? Disclosure - I'm not a physician. I work in industry for a company completely unrelated to both of these, and am just curious. submitted by /u/Murky-Cardiologist-3 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi does anyone here became a successful ophthalmologist but with stereopsis issues? I am currently an ophtha resident but I just knew that I have stereopsis issues when I got into the program. I tested myself with titmus fly test and stereocircles and got negative for all. However, I have good monocular visual cues I was able to do FB removal and Pterygium cases. But I still do not know how will my visual cues work when I start doing ECCE or phaco. Thank you for answering. submitted by /u/ScheduleKey7199 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Had a talk about reimbursements recently amongst medical specialties and it, of course, was brought up that ophthalmology takes one of the largest hits with cataract surgery for example and potentially injections moving forward. I would assume that eventually if cataract reimbursements fall, ophthalmologists won't want to keep doing them which then would prevent further decreasing reimbursements. In the mean time, do ophthalmologists have to resort to increasing their volume every year (which not only is taxing to the body but also takes on a lot of liability and complications that is innatel ..read more

How much do OKAPS scores matter?

PGY3 here. Not trying to cover up and make excuses but-our program truly, truly has no subspecialty exposure. It is literally a bunch of Comprehensive Clinic, and we are told to lie to the ACGME about it (some of our attendings, while specialized in cornea/glaucoma/retina, choose to practice general, but ACGME doesnt know the latter part). My co resident and I studied very hard-we got through all of BCSC once in PGY2, again PGY3, did ophthoquestions and also another Q bank yet scored poorly on OKAPS. How much does it matter for the future? Appreciate honest responses. Also responses from thos ..read more

Moderate Sedation

Is anyone billing for directing RN mod sed during cataracts? Does Medicare pay for this? Do they decrease reimbursement for the procedure if you also bill sedation like they do for some GI cases? I’m the medical director of a growing ASC and we’re having trouble getting anesthesia coverage for all our cataracts. Thanks. submitted by /u/Scarftheverb [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
