Editors Note: If you’ve played Magic: The Gathering or The Lord of the Rings TCG you’ll likely have seen her work. Sara Winters came to my attention as I looked closer into the world of collectible card games and the artists who work within it. Her incredible ability to capture the energy and presence of the figures she illustrated drew me in and I’m so happy she took some time to talk through her work with me. If you’ve got any favorite Magic: The Gathering artwork let me know in the comments below! Enjoy the interview. Hi Sara, thanks for joining me! For our readers who aren't aware of you ..read more

Editors note: Today I’m joined by the Anne Heidsieck, whose work caught my eye via 2018s release Welcome to. Roll and Write games (or flip and fill in this case) aren’t always well known for their gorgeous art, but what struck me about this game was how fully realised its theme was, from the played board itself to the accompanying art. I decided I needed to know more about that game, and the artist, so I got in touch. I hope you enjoy our conversation and if you have any questions, feel free to post them below. Editors Note: I’ve long had a fascination with hand made goods. Nottingham my home city, was once the centre of the world as far as the lace industry was concerned, and whenever I travel I like to see local history depicted through a regions items. In a world filled with mass produced goods, it can often feel like we’ve lost that handmade touch, however, the tabletop scene is actually a welcome home for the DIY maker. With a huge print and play scene that is thriving online and of course not forgetting most projects start (and end) life as scraps of paper and cubes in prototype form. With the ..read more

Techlandia: The Art in Kickstarter #8

Editors Note: With all of the tech scandals of the last few years the idea that a secret evil is lurking behind the scenes pulling the strings, seems less like fiction every day. When I heard about Techlandia, a game that takes the premise of Silicon Valley corporations and spreads supernatural horror on top like a thick lovecraftian marmite I had to know more. I got in touch with the creator Dan Ackerman and you can read our conversation below. If you like what you see Techlandia is on Kickstarter until September 5 2019. Today I'm joined on the site by Dan Ackerman. Thanks for stopping by! F ..read more

EDITORS NOTE: Back in May Restoration Games reached out to me as they had created a series of prints for Fireball Island and wanted to know if I was interested in interviewing an artist and debuting their poster online. As soon as I saw Heather’s name, I was on board as I’ve long admired her work but had yet to speak to her on the site. Heather’s print and that of the other artists will be available to buy on Board Game Geek, Friday 26th July, and for those interested I’ll be updating the article with a link once they go live. Thanks to Restoration Games for putting me in touch with Heather a ..read more

EDITORS NOTE: Board games often have creative or artistic directors to project manage and help ensure there’s a cohesive vision behind the work. This is especially important on games that have multiple artists involved. I’d been wanting to speak to more creative directors about how they work and I’m very grateful for Tyler for taking the time to speak to me. If you’re a creative/art director and want to speak to me about your work in the industry then get in touch! Hi Tyler, thanks for joining me! Editors Note: I’ll admit, I’m a big fan of board games with anthropomorphic art, but not all of it is done well. When I saw the art for Untamed: Feral Factions on social media, I was reminded of my favorite cartoons growing up, in my eyes a pretty big compliment. This game is currently doing good work on Kickstarter (live until July 3rd), so if you like what you see, go take a look afterwards.Hello there Jeremy Falger, thanks for joining me! Editors note: It should probably come as no surprise that I’m a big fan of street art. I’ve seen the restorative effects it had on Christchurch after the earthquakes. How it’s transformed parts of Berlin into a living breathing canvas. I’ve walked around countless cities marveling not only at the talent of the art but also the location and scale of some pieces. When Rafi and Tutti got in touch about their card game based around street art I had to admit I was intrigued. Enjoy the interview and you can find atommix on Kickstarter until 10th July. Editors note: As much as this website is my own personal curation of art in the industry I don’t tend to throw around terms like “favorites” very often. However, Kwanchai is in my humble opinion, one of the absolute best in the industry right now. He was one of the very first people I tried to contact when launching my site and I’m so very glad we’ve finally got this interview to share with you. Enjoy the read and do yourself a favor, go check out his website afterwards, it’s a feast for the eyes.Today I'm being joined by Kwanchai Moriya. Thanks for joining me!
