Setsubun – Getting Rid of Your Demons
A Fox of Inari
by SpiritFoxTarot

Today I celebrated Setsubun (節分), a yearly festival in which we celebrate the beginning of Spring. Setsubun literally means ‘seasonal division’ and is also associated with the Lunar new year, so is often thought of as a ‘new year’ before Spring! Note: I use the term ‘demon‘ here to translate the Japanese term ‘oni’. This is simply to get a clear idea of what this particular type of oni are associated as – they bring poverty, illness and misfortune, but they are not equivalent to or associated with the Christian idea of a demon. Traditionally in Japan, a bean-throwing ritual called mamemaki ..read more

Card of The Week: The Ace of Cups (Reversed)
A Fox of Inari
by SpiritFoxTarot

Welcome again to my card of the week! Last week’s card was Justice and it played out exactly as it predicted. I mentioned last week that I was asking spirit for signs related to a decision I wanted to make. Not long after I pulled Justice I actually received a clear answer and so I will go forth with my plan. I hope to unveil it here in the future. Card from the Wild Unknown DeckThis week’s card is The Ace of Cups (Reversed). Ah yes, those pesky reverse cards. In fact, I was sure this entire deck was ‘right’ way up, but I still managed to draw this card. I do believe that reading reverse cards ..read more

The Mysterious Origins of Imbolc
A Fox of Inari
by SpiritFoxTarot
4y ago
The time of Imbolc (pronounced ‘imolg/immolk’) is almost upon us, falling on February 1st or sometimes the 2nd, of each year. In modern times, Imbolc is celebrated as one of the seasonal festivals of Wicca, witchcraft and other pagan paths but its origins are garbled and confusing. Imbolc is also celebrated in Christianity as St. Brigid’s Day and Candlemas. Imbolc is associated with the lambing season – Source: PixabayIn paganism, Imbolc is one of four seasonal fire festivals, the others being Beltane (1 May), Lughnasadh (1 August) and Samhain (31 Oct – 1 Nov). It marks the emergence of life a ..read more

Card of The Week: Justice
A Fox of Inari
by SpiritFoxTarot
4y ago
Hello everyone! I am starting a new weekly post which I hope I’ll be able to do consistently. I usually draw a tarot card for myself once a week and I thought it might be useful to others if I share my personal insights into the card as well as the general associations and meanings. Each week I will use a different deck and so will have slightly different meanings even with the same card. Hopefully if nothing else, you will find it interesting and at most, helpful. This week’s card is XI/11, Justice (upright).  Card from the Crow TarotKEYWORDS: Justice, law, truth, balance, fairness, decision ..read more

The East Tennessee ‘Shinto Shrine’
A Fox of Inari

Oh boy. So this video has been making the rounds in the Shinto community and it’s… something. What it isn’t is Shinto. There are so many issues with this ‘shrine’ and I’m going to talk about some of them here. Firstly I want to make it clear that gatekeeping is not something that really happens in the Shinto community; if you’ve done something that is seen as ‘wrong’ in Shinto then you will more than likely get a light nudge or correction from an ordained priest or experienced practitioner. Most people are open to questions on the proper practices according to what Shinto it is you’re practis ..read more

All About Prayer Part 2: Prayer in Modern Paganism
A Fox of Inari
by SpiritFoxTarot
4y ago
In my last post I talked about what prayer is through various definitions that I hope broadened the understanding of those curious. Today I continue this series and talk a little about examples of prayer Modern Paganiso. This post will focus primarily on the practical aspect of prayer as I believe everyone’s spiritual experience is different, and so I cannot talk for everyone. Part three will be about prayer in Shinto, and part 4 will be about what prayer means to me personally, and my own experiences. Prayer in Modern Paganism There are many excellent posts already out there on prayer in Pa ..read more

All About Prayer Part 1: What Is Prayer?
A Fox of Inari
by SpiritFoxTarot
4y ago
I get a lot of emails asking me how I pray, what is prayer and asking for general advice on how to pray and practices associated with it. I decided to write this series of posts to hopefully answer these questions, though I must state that prayer is very individual and means very different things to different people, so take this as you will! All views on these posts are my own and I advise further research in your own time to really find out what you believe and what you’d like to take from this. Please note that this also comes from my own beliefs (Shinto/Pagan) and so will be from my point ..read more

A Story of Manifestation

It’s been a while, friends. As usual I’ve been pretty busy with work but also with lots of other goings on. Firstly, and before I forget, I now have a twitter and an instagram if you are inclined to follow. Updates are currently pretty sporadic, but they are more active than this blog for now! Surgery and Mobility Worries Today I would like to share a story of a recent event and explain why I have been so busy. As you may or may not know, I have been awaiting news of surgery regarding my legs due to P.A.E.S. (popliteal artery entrapment syndrome). I had to go through a lot of different doctors ..read more

‘Moving’ to Spirit Fox
A Fox of Inari
by SpiritFoxTarot

Hello all! I am writing this post to inform you that I will be changing my name/alias to ‘SpiritFox’ for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it is a name which I used long ago, as a teenager when I was starting out with tarot and paganism and so I still feel that youthful and positive energy attracted to it. Secondly, I find that I receive a lot of emails asking me if I am otherkin of a kitsune, because of the name of the blog. Although I do not have any problems with this, I feel like those people may be misunderstanding the purpose of this blog. It was established to write about Inari-Okami, pagan ..read more

(Dream) An Evening At A Shrine
A Fox of Inari
by SpiritFoxTarot
5y ago
I wanted to write up and share this dream I had about an hour ago as it was intensely powerful. I have been rather stressed all day as we have had workmen here who stayed much later than I hoped (for a total of 8 hours!) and I was pretty bitter that I was unable to carry out my Lughnasadh plans. I ended up having a nap, and that is how we arrive here. The Dream I was in Japan with my partner. We were staying in a small place in Fushimi (though this is very much a fictional Fushimi) and it was late afternoon, early evening. Charlie had gone to get food and I was bored and decided it might be n ..read more
