The origin of flamenco in Andalusia remains unknown due to the multiple cultures that existed in this region. Its development throughout Andalusia has multiple origins described, among them the Zambra del Sacromonte, the Moorish Zambra or the Gypsy Zambra, which today is a capital part of the flamenco culture. We will try to clarify the concept, its origin and development throughout this post.
¿What is the Zambra?
As we already know, the gypsy culture is not the only one that has taken place in Granada, and in the same way, the Arab culture has contributed some customs, among them, the zambra ..read more

Flamenco Singing technique
We all know what flamenco is, but perhaps we do not give the importance it deserves to cante (flamenco singing), one of the most indispensable elements in this art. Flamenco singing is usually defined as one that is Andalusian but with gypsie notes, with great passion.

Granada is not a capital of flamenco only for being in the south of the Iberian Peninsula; it is a neuralgic place of this culture thanks to the artists who grew up here. The Nasrid province of Granada has always had a number of cantaores, bailaroes or guitarists, who ended up triumphing worldly: los Morente, the cantaora Marina Heredia, but also los Habichuela, one of the most famous flamenco dynasty with the greatest impact.
Juan Habichuela, a flamenco legend
Juan Carmona Carmona (Granada, 1933), died in 2016. Although he was not the first of the Habichuela’s lineage – it is said it was his ..read more

The potential of music in people with mental disorders is demonstrated in the scientific literature. When we talk about flamenco, the benefits multiply. Experts allude to flamenco -its dances and songs- as a treatment to raise self-esteem in moments of weakness, but also as a therapy to make the side effects of certain drugs more bearable.
“The grace is inside all people”.
Every Monday at six in the afternoon, at the headquarters of the Andalusian Federation of Mental Health Associations (Seville), Carlos Sepúlveda, psychologist and flamenco enthusiast, gives his workshop called ‘In the first ..read more

El Lebrijano, Andalusian cantaor, said: “The days that I sing and I have it there is no one who can with me”.
You can be a genius in any art and not have it.
“It’s not in the throat; it goes up inside from the soles of the feet. That is to say, it is not a question of faculty, but of true living style; that is, of blood; of very old culture, of creation in the act”, explained the poet García Lorca.

“I believe that it can be found in all trades, although perhaps more so in what we do, the gypsies. But it can’t be explained. Sudde ..read more
