São Paulo Beach Getaway: Praia de Juquehy

My sister who is currently visiting us and I were just returning from a 4 day beach trip to Praia de Juquehy, my favourite beach on the coastline of São Paulo. Known as the jewel of the North Coast of São Paulo, Juquehy is characterized by a familiar and relaxed atmosphere. 150km away from São Paulo it is not the closest one but still a location that is not too far away to enjoy a beach weekend. Many beaches of the São Paulo state are along the coast road and you have to cross the street before entering the beach. Juquehy is different. You drive down from the main road, through its ..read more

What is Christmas time like in São Paulo?
TropicalTreasureHunter - Living in Sao Paulo

Today is already the 2nd Sunday of Advent and Christmas is coming soon! Signs of the season are popping up all over São Paulo. From Santa Clauses to fake trees, lights to decorated shops, São Paulo is getting more and more Christmas decoration. But for me it feels strange… It is my first time that I will spend Christmas in summer, with 30 degrees or more, and I do not get in any Christmas mood, at least not yet. Seeing all the snowy decorations feels rather weird as I always anticipate Christmas time with cold (snowy) days, chimney fire and punch on the Christmas market. T ..read more

We escaped São Paulo to spend a weekend with friends on the organic coffee farm Fazenda Ambietal Fortaleza (FAF) which is located in Mococa around 270km outside of São Paulo. The farm has been in the Barretto Family since 1850 and is now owned by Silvia and Marcos. They continued the traditional farming methods and turned the farm into an organic one taking into consideration the environment and relationships between people while producing high quality products. FAF provides nice little guest cottages. Meals are served on the terrace of the main building on a long table were all vi ..read more

Caipirinha, Sunshine, Samba… these are all words that come to mind, when thinking about Brazil. There are a few things, however, you won’t know about Brazil until you actually live here. Here is my list of 10 things you only find out after having lived in the country for a few months – positive and negative. #1: Brazilians are really friendly From the first week on I realized how friendly Brazilians are. They smile, they speak with you and they try to help you. It is easy to get in contact with them. Having nice people around you sets off good vibes and leaves everyone feeling great. For ..read more
