Faith. Tribute.

Dear Yogis, I’ve been thinking a lot about faith recently. My friend died. Often he referenced his Catholic beliefs as part of his reasoning. But that’s not what brought me to my little lightning strike of realisation. Faith, I think, is in yourself; in your inner trust and confidence that you will do the right thing. My precious friend did this with mountainous kindness and natural generosity. There are incredible stories about him helping people financially and supporting people with advice. We are/were both carers. He looked after his parents and he loved to hear my stories of Mum. He told ..read more

Dear Yogis, Christmas, eh! How were the presents? Did you get blocks and bolsters? Is your New Year Resolution up and running? I saw this quote about the meaning of Christmas from A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens. “I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.” I hope you had a good Christmas. I hope you weren’t lonely. I’m starting a new class from next Monday – 15th January. I’ve never done a 1.00 lunchtime class bef ..read more

Dear Yogis, Happy November! One of the classes I took at the October Yoga Show last was all about the Vagus Nerve. I’ve written about this before when I did a workshop with Eddie Stern all about the importance of the Vagus Nerve. The second blog was Eddie Stern, again, when he asked ‘Why Does Yoga Work?’ Clue… it’s the Vagus Nerve! Well, at the Yoga Show, the workshop ‘The Vagus Nerve, Psoas, Anxiety Connection Workshop’ was with Janie Larmour from The Centre of Yoga in Australia. Have a look below at the class plan of the workshop we did. This is what she says about it: The vagus nerve connec ..read more

Dear Yogis, Like Nina Simone, I'm feelin good. Greetings from Kapsali, Kythera. I’m writing this by the side of the sea, listening to the easy roll of the waves on the shore. Two massive treats came out of this visit. Kapsali is a seaside village that just keeps on giving. First of all, Porto Delfino, the hotel we base our yoga retreat in, has a Hammam and treatment rooms so I started off my stay with a Hot Stones treatment. It’s amazing! Massaging isn’t done with the hands – it’s done with the hot stones. I can’t tell you how much the back appreciates this after the journey here. Then the Ham ..read more

Hello Yogis! Well! I was listening to an interview with Canadian Physician Dr Peter Attia and I bought his book immediately. The interview is here, on Virgin Radio. Wind forward to 02:50:30. Here are some key points: Q1. Beware the marginal decade and bring on the bonus decade. Discuss. "The truth is every one of us will have a last year of your life. What can you do to make it the best possible version of that decade, physically, mentally, emotionally?” Q2. Training for the last decade of life. "I want to be able to sit on the floor for 20 minutes with ease and get up on my own power. I want ..read more

Hello Yogis! Since the workshop with Judith Hanson Lasater, ‘Letting Go: The Heart of Yoga Practice’, there’s a question she asked that has been on my mind. I think it’s a really useful question: “What is the one repetitive thought that once you let go of it would make the biggest difference in your life? It's there in the background like a bad song”.  She said: “Worrying is praying for what you don’t want”. “The mind gives off 16, 000 thoughts a day. It just generates thoughts and if you give them power they ruin your life”. This repetitive thought is keeping you from yourself. It is tet ..read more

Letting Go... Of What?
Good Times Yoga Blog
by Tania Shillam
10M ago
Hello Yogis! Recently I attended a workshop by Judith Hanson Lasater called ‘Letting Go: The Heart of Yoga Practice’. She said: ‘The entire history and teaching of yoga is letting go. It's not acquiring poses.  It's about recognising what is it that we are letting go? Specifically…? The ego's view of reality. Egoism means believing and seeing the world from a narrow viewpoint. As if that isn’t bad enough, egoism is enhanced by conflict: for example, clinging to being right or separation. Yoga points to whatever isn’t that; The Big Awareness. When we let go, we are no longer a prisoner of ..read more

Hello Yogis! A couple of things to tell you about, hence the Friday Yoga Email on Thursday. Firstly, I  wanted to remind you of Valentina’s new class tonight at 6.30. Valentina is my teacher. She started studying classical dance in Venice, followed by jazz and contemporary. Then came training in aerialism, hand balancing and acro-balance contortionism at The Acrobatic Club in Venice. In 2001 she qualified as a Sivananda Yoga teacher. Whatever your question about ..read more
