TIL what a massive difference frame weight makes

I’ve been riding a Schwinn World Sport for the last few years, including last summer/fall when I really ramped up my riding. I realized I was getting past what I could do with that bike, and right at the end of the season last year I lucked out with a really good deal on a Bianchi Impulso from a local FB bike swap group. I got to ride it a couple times before winter started, but at that point I was in good shape and ran into some stupid issue on each of those rides so I couldn’t really gauge the difference. After barely training all winter, I just started up again this week. Did 10 miles the ..read more

Bib recommendation needed

Hi everyone. I've been using some basic cycling shorts, but I'm often quite bloated and hate that the waist band pushes into my stomach. Having read around, I'm thinking a bib could work better... Does anyone know of a bib that's pretty loose around the stomach? Anything that avoids pressure on that area would be ideal! Thank you submitted by /u/Anywaaaaay [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Lightweight Bike for 3rd Floor Walkup

I’ve been riding a Marin Stinson ST 1 (medium) for the past few years, and there are a lot of reasons I like it: it’s got a low-ish step through geometry, which is good for skirts, it’s got space for really beefy tires for a more comfortable ride, it’s sized well for my very petite frame so that I can put my feet down when stopping, and I can get panniers on the back. That’s all I really need— I’m a casual short-distance bike commuter and farmers-market/grocery-transporter, and I occasionally go for rides on well-maintained flat bike trails. The problem is that it’s heavy and a little bulky ..read more

I lost my road confidence

I am taking up cycling after being off my bike the last few years I don’t know where my road confidence went. I wasn’t the most confident person on every road, but I could at least be on the road and feel comfortable enough riding alongside cars, handling intersections, navigating two-lane roads where there's a break in the bike lane. Those things didn't scare me. I just did a few rides the last few days and I am SO skittish now. Has this happened to anyone else, and how do you overcome it? submitted by /u/nyliram87 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Replacement for Machines for freedom bibs?

Which brand’s bibs fit similarly to Machines For Freedom? I need to replace mine, but obviously can’t get the same thing. I don’t mind paying for something that will last, but I’d like to avoid unnecessary returns. TIA! submitted by /u/dps12 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Commuting and rain

I use my bike for commuting to and from work, but really struggle with doing this when it rains. What protection can I wear to mitigate this? Anything I've tried makes me very sweaty. Do you all just keep a change of clothing and change into work clothes upon arrival? My commute is 3 miles but with hills, so I'm on the road for 30-40 mins. The way back I don't mind being wet, it's just arriving at work. submitted by /u/First-Bed-5918 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Ladies who live in windy, dry areas: what are you doing for your face?

I've never had such a reaction until I moved here, but the grit that gets kicked up, the overall dryness and the wind gives me the worst excema on my face. I currently use a lot of sunscreen and moisturizer, sleep in coconut oil, and use oatmeal face masks. I also ride rearing a baseball cap and bandana over my face. But the wind still gets me! submitted by /u/llamalibrarian [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What other workouts do you do?

I'm taking up cycling again after being off the bike for a few years. In that time, I was about walking/hiking, and doing a decent amount of strength training. When I was cycling, I did strength train, but not as much as I am now. I didn't really overload the way I do today, I was more about doing cardio at the time. Just curious about what other people do submitted by /u/nyliram87 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
