We don’t often think of hymns for children, the sometimes stoic melody and lyrics steeped in beautiful scripture often times get dismissed as being not “fun enough” for kids. But I’m here to tell you that hymns are great for kids and could be a wonderful way to build memories together as you share them in your home! I often mention singing together as a family because it’s one of my favorite memories of when our kids were all home. We sang with them from the time they were very little, all the way through their teen years. We also played good Christian music when we were in the car when they w ..read more

6 Prayers for Your Rebellious Child

A few years ago, I wrote a post about Scriptures to pray over your rebellious child. This time around, we’re going to turn those Scriptures into prayers. I’ve always been a firm believer in the Word of God and prayer changing things and when it comes to dealing with a rebellious child, it’s certainly no different. Be sure to bookmark this page and write these prayers in your journal to pray often. What does God say about a rebellious child? Going back to Deuteronomy, God is pretty clear on what to do about rebellious children. However, when put into it’s proper context, the passage in Deuteron ..read more

Introducing our 30-Day Prayer Challenge: Praying Biblical Virtues For Your Children  One of the best things you can do for your kids is to pray Scripture for them!  As this school year progresses, good character is the one thing that will help your children the most. If you homeschool, you can have the best-laid plans and have the most popular curriculum, but if your kids don’t have Godly character, you are going to have a hard time teaching them!  Character is a vital ingredient to academic success, but it also helps your children to become more like Christ, and better equippe ..read more

Should you always say yes to your child?

Should you always say yes to your child? Why is it so hard to say YES to our kids? “No” seems to come forth so much easier, doesn’t it? Afterall, isn’t that also one of the first words that our kids learn to say? I know that the word “NO!” was one of the first words my kids learned as toddlers (Usually said very emphatically too!)  No one had to teach them to say that.  Should you always say yes to your child? We worked hard to get them to say “Mama” and “Dada”. We spent time encouraging them to say “love you!”. What a joy it was each time they would repeat these words that we’d bee ..read more

Dealing With a Difficult Child

Do you have a “difficult” child? We were blessed with two kids that I would say fit in that category. By difficult child, I mean the one that causes you frustration. He is different from your other children. What worked for them, doesn’t work with him. He takes more time, energy, and discipline than all your other kids put together. Some words that may describe him are: high maintenance, angry, disagreeable, prickly, demanding, or exasperating. I think most of us with a child like that tend to think that NO ONE else has a child quite like this one! But the truth is, many parents struggle ..read more

Training Kids’ Hearts With Scripture

Training kids’ hearts with Scripture is one of the best ways and most important ways to teach and train our children. God tells us as parents that we are to bring our children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4) He also provided everything we need for that task in His Word. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable (useful) for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (II Timothy 3:16) One of the most important things we can do for our children is to teach them God’s Word. We should read it to them, have t ..read more

In Deuteronomy 6 God gives a clear Bible command to PARENTS, to diligently teach God’s Word to their children when they walk, sit, rise up, or lay down. So pretty much, we should be teaching God’s Word to our children all the time! Diligent is defined as “pursued with painstaking effort”. It’s good to have a “Bible time” or “Family Devotions” with your kids, but, that’s not enough! The Bible must be a part of YOUR life! If we “have it in our hearts” as parents, the result will be that we will talk about it all the time like the verses command. How do you go about teaching God’s Word to your c ..read more

What is your typical reaction to the subject of discipline? Is it usually “Oh no, here we go again!” Disciplining our children is one of the most challenging parts of being a parent. We have to be consistent, and we have to be firm. And it seems like it’s something we have to do nearly every single day! Sometimes we get tired of hearing about it; other times we get tired of dealing with it. As a result, we can get harsh in our discipline. When you use loving discipline with your child it will help you stay calm, while remembering that discipline is an opportunity to train your kids — NOT an i ..read more

7 Ways to Make Summer Count!

Rather than just letting the days pass you by, would you like to make summer count this year? In my early days of homeschooling, I would look forward to having the summer vacation that most parents dread. It was a time to give me a break from daily school with the kids, and a time when we could do some of the extras that we never had time for during the school year. I found that if I didn’t plan things, the kids would quickly get bored. That would often lead to arguing and bad attitudes. I found that if I planned part of their days with some good, profitable activities, they would also be happ ..read more
