Hi Friends, We are all aware of the terrible impact of the Corona virus , and it has impacted on everyone’s lives in some way. So I was delighted to receive this email from a customer who had really taken a positive outlook and decided to give knitting a try. This is her email and I wanted to share : The shut down prompted me to try some new things - one of which was knitting! I had no idea where or how to start, so finding your website was great! I didn't really want to knit a scarf or beanie, so the toddler poncho was perfect! I really enjoyed knitting it, your videos were clear and easy to ..read more

Hello, Just thought I’d write a quick note to say a big welcome to my new Knitting friends. I’m so glad you’ve decided to give knitting a try during this time of isolation. Knitting is such a great skill. Firstly it allows you to use your time constructively - you can create something lovely! Secondly you can take your mind off things that might be worrying you and focus on learning those knitting stitches. I’m guessing you’ve all had a look at the Video Tutorials. If not - go here! I also wanted to let you know that due to popularity, I’m currently out of stock of the Chunky Knit Beanie a ..read more

Think Big, buy Small!

If you are looking to purchase gifts or even some knitting projects for yourself, you might like to consider the benefit of buying from a small business. The small businesses I support with my Aussie Yarn kits are independent farms. These farms are operated by the owners, it’s the livelihood for their families. They lovingly tend to their flocks of sheep and alpacas and focus on creating the best environment for their livestock. The farms themselves are operated to maintain the sustainability of the land. Sadly many are suffering from the drought in Australia and also bushfires pose a very se ..read more

Is knitting meditative?

I’m often asked about the meditation benefits of knitting, and I’m afraid I don’t usually give the answer most people expect. As someone who both knits and attends Yoga meditation, I don’t really see much similarity in the practices. Having said that – there are certainly benefits to knitting that will change your thought processes and level of mindfulness. During our daily activities we often operate on an automatic level. We drive the same routes, shop in the same stores, read our social media updates and watch TV. Even d ..read more

Knitting has often been connected to the process of Mindfulness. The process of knitting as meditation. Doing something deliberately, slowly, with purpose makes a lovely change to staring at a screen and scrolling! The new Aussie Yarn knit kits projects continue with the mindfulness concept. However, it now extends to the yarns and even the packaging. The yarns are sourced from small Australian farms who care for their animals and operate in a sustainable manner. The yarns are processed as carefully and organically as possible. (Yarn from Tarndie - see video above, is used in one of my Aussie ..read more

Australian yarns supporting Australian farms

In the world of fast fashion and disposable goods - my new range stops, takes a breath and smells the country air. Each of the yarns featured in this range is from a small Australian farm. These primary producers work hard to care for their lovely animals. The fleece procured from these naturally farmed animals is then processed in Australia or New Zealand in order to maintain the integrity of the yarn. Some of it is dyed with natural dyes, others maintain their lovely natural colours. The yarn is processed and spun locally, and these local farmers have created a beautiful 100% Australian ..read more

Repair and renew.

I think I am the only knitter that Neil from Moondarra Wines knows. Or maybe he knows more about my skills than I do? This July I received a heartfelt plea to repair some knitwear from Neil. He even suggested using the ‘obvious repair’ method as favoured by Japanese, Kintsugi process where ceramics are repaired using gold to make a feature of the repair. His sister had spun the yarn and knitted him a jumper. A jumper that Neil obviously loved so much, he had worn it to death! The cuffs were frayed, there were ho ..read more
