Well actually no I’m away on spring break, enjoying some sunshine and Vitamin Sea. But it is Runfession Friday after all, so welcome to a special Spring Break Edition of Runfessions. Ready? Let’s go! Before I even get started I have to runfess that the pic above is not from our current spring break. We are not in Bermuda nor am I racing. The pic is from ZOOMA Bermuda (may that race series rest in peace) circa 2020, right before the world shut ..read more

Tokyo and the Big College Decision

While February here was officially the mildest one on record weather wise, I for one am quite pleased to have it behind us. 2024 has been tough up in here so far and I am hopeful that March will be better. All that said, it’s time to sit down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch-up session over a nice beverage. I’m going with Starbucks Veranda blend with collagen and a splash of Nutpods creamer. Tokyo and the Big College Decision Over coffee I’d reminisce that it’s been 5 very fast years since I ran the Tokyo Marathon. While it was not my slowest, it was definitely the most difficult ..read more

It’s time once again to open up the Runfessional so we can head into a new month with a clean soul…and soles. Let’s get started shall we? Runfessions: Galentine’s Day Edition While a Valentine’s Day celebration didn’t really happen this year (I had a work event and the Caveman went over to his parents’ house to help with a computer problem) I runfess I am tickled by this Galentine’s Day card he received from his mom. He didn’t know what Galentine’s Day was and apparently she didn’t either. January was the 15th anniversary of this blog. I runfess I don’t pay much attention to how many years I ..read more

Happy Lunar New Year! February here so far (knock wood) has been delightful. Temps staying in the 40s overnight and rising up to the mid-50s during the day is very rare in these parts and I’m enjoying every second of it. I’m still (carefully) on the comeback trail after a bout with pneumonia so I’m not running just yet, but hopefully soon. Here’s how the workouts went: Sunday: Walk 4 miles, 20 mins bike hills and sprints, Strength, Core, Sauna Monday: Walk 4 miles, 30 mins bike, Restorative Yoga Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, very early work day Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, 30 mins bike, Strength, Sauna T ..read more

While I’m mostly feeling better from my recent bout with pneumonia I’m not quite 100%. So in an abundance of caution, I’m not taxing the lungs with running just yet. But I’m building back slowly. Let the record show my stationary bike is getting some time and attention. Here’s how the workouts went: Sunday: Walk 2 miles, 10 min bike, Strength, Stretch, Sauna Monday: Walk 4 miles, Restorative Yoga, Sauna Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, very early work day Wednesday: Walk 3 miles, 15 mins Bike, Strength, Stretch, Sauna Thursday: Walk 4 miles, 15 mins Bike with 5 mins hills and sprints, Strength, Core, St ..read more

Life Span vs. Health Span

This post contains affiliate links. One way or another, I made it through the first month of 2024, and while it wasn’t pretty, it is February and we are a tiny bit closer to spring so I’m going to call that a win. I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch-up session over a nice warm beverage. I’m going with some Starbucks Green Apron Blend and, because I am hyper aware of my cholesterol lately, I’m using a plant-based creamer from nutpods to avoid the saturated fat in my usual half & half. What’s in your cup? Life Span vs. Health Span Over coffee I’d give you an updat ..read more

January you were a cruel start to the New Year and I’m glad to usher you out in just a few short days. Before we welcome February, the month of love, it’s time to open the Runfessional for some NoSpenduary Runfessions. It’s always a good idea to start a new month with a clean slate. What is NoSpenduary you ask? Read on! NoSpenduary Runfessions While Dry January is a popular goal at this time of year, as a non-drinker I like to challenge myself to not spend money on “nonessentials”. No shoes, clothing, workout gear, gym equipment or accessories, makeup, you get the gist. Last year this effort ..read more
