(Hi! I actually wrote this a week ago and forgot about it, so I’m actually 39 weeks and feel like my perspective has changed a little since writing this. I am however, still eager to meet the little one!) My hospital bag is packed. I’m enormous and yet I might feel better physically at this point in pregnancy than I have the past 37 weeks. I cannot turn my brain off. This baby has taken over 99% of my thoughts. I have so many questions, but mostly I’m feeling eager. Eager to see him and meet him. Eager to get my body back (well, at least partially back). Eager to know the pain of childbirth. E ..read more

My Pre-natal Workouts Weren’t What I Expected Them to Be

Early in pregnancy, I decided running wasn’t for me (If you missed that post read: Why I’m Not Running Through Pregnancy). What I didn’t know at the time was just how little I would workout throughout my entire pregnancy. I never thought I would forgo my favorite workouts while growing a human and I most certainly didn’t think I’d be so laid back about it either. I feel zero guilt and have zero regrets at this point, but ask me this again in the spring or summer when I’m trying to get back into shape! At 34 weeks, I racked up 5+ miles one day and I’ve felt better after 22-mile training runs. P ..read more

Mindless T.V. Show: Younger – TV Land/ Streaming on Hulu The show follows a 40-year-old divorced mother, Liza, as she pretends to be a 26-year-old in order to get a job in publishing. The episodes are short and sweet and the content is light. I love shows that are based in NYC and I’ve enjoyed watching how Liza transforms over time. Let’s face it: running is an expensive sport. The cost of race entries, running shoes, sports bras and physical therapy sessions add up over time. Running is also time consuming and balancing training along with life’s other demands means making the most of each moment of the day. One way to save both money and time is to do strength training at home. You don’t need a lot of expensive equipment to get started; you just need a few key pieces of equipment in the beginning. Over time, as you get stronger or get bored, you can add other pieces of equipment. Of course, you can do body weight exerc ..read more

Adding on an extra five minutes to your morning running routine can take your training to the next level. I’m not saying it ONLY takes five extra minutes to reach your big goals for the year, but I what I am saying is that even adding an extra five minutes to your daily morning workouts can allow you to see improvements or prevent injuries. Here are ten things you can do with an extra five minutes added onto your morning workout routine: Foam roll (btw, this is my all time favorite foam roller) 2. Stretch 3. Give your body time to either warm-up before your run or cool-down after your ..read more

Why I’m NOT Running Through Pregnancy

I have been a runner for most of my life. Since I was first introduced to the sport, the things that have motivated me to keep running for 28 years have evolved over time. Right now, I am 29 weeks pregnant–and, although I still consider myself a runner, I am choosing not to run through my pregnancy. I have been active on social media for many years. I’ve watched women impressively run all through their pregnancies; some have even run marathons or half marathons while growing human beings inside their bodies. I never thought that I would run marathons when I became pregnant, but I did think&nb ..read more

The holiday season is here! In my opinion, NYC is the best place to be during the holiday season. I’ll be spending my 18th year here and it never gets old. In fact, I’d say it gets better every year. The only thing better than Christmas in New York, is the first Sunday of November (aka New York City Marathon Day). This time of year also signals the end of the sunny days and the beginning of the dark, cloudy days of winter. Without taking the necessary precautions, the short, grey colored days of winter in the northeast wreak havoc on my mental state – I crave sugar in illegal amounts, am tire ..read more

Logging that last long run on your training schedule before heading into the taper can be exhilarating. You may even feel like celebrating having made it through the bulk of your training plan. While you should be proud of all you’ve accomplished in your training thus far, try not to forget that just because it’s taper time doesn’t meant you can sit back and relax. It can be easy to sit back and not do anything during the taper, but it is an important part of the training process. You don’t want to do too much, but you don’t want to do too little either. “Rest, don’t rust” is a popular phrase ..read more

One of the most challenging parts of tapering for a race is getting out of your own head. It’s natural if you become a bit of a headcase during the taper.
