Bird's Eye Solutions attended another new site at Appley Bridge, Lancashire to train and conduct Flight Skills Tests for Flyby. The marginal morning conditions meant flying was curtailed until 1045, so that left time to get on with the theory and aircraft checking. The three guys on the Motorola team were flying Yuneec H520s, not my favourite drone. However, my mind was changed as the aircraft were well maintained, including firmware upgrades, and produced some nice stable flying. Some of the more advanced functions worked as advertised and helped bust a few myths. Jez, Darren and Andrew battl ..read more

Shrewsbury Flood 25/2/20

The devastating floods continue in Shrewsbury and the other towns next to the River Severn. At the same time I was flying there was a news helicopter doing the same thing. The noise from the helicopter drowned out the sound of my Phantom4Pro, no pun intended, and cost far more than doing the same job of my drone. The ability to fly safely in Class G airspace with other uses is once again shown to be issue free if done in a knownedgeable and professional aviation manner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTjzyuHpJPs ..read more

Flyby Technology received a request from Adcote School for girls to attend their Technology Festival on 9 October. As Flyby Technology Instructors Dicky Bird and Roy Parker lived nearby they went to answer interesting questions that the students posed. It was also a good time to demonstrate the capabilities of Bird's Eye Solutions Inspire 2, which coped brilliantly with the strong wind conditions. It was a very good afternoon out sharing the good experiences of drones with open-minded and intelligent young entrepreneurs in the making. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILidXK8uUSg ..read more

Ullapool Bird's Eye Solutions took time off to conduct the North Coast 500 route of Scotland anti-clockwise from Inverness over 18 days. We travelled with friends who had done it before and gave us so much advice and it was comforting to know help was always at hand. The scenery was stunning when the weather allowed, which was very often. The sunsets were long and spectacular, especially near the coast. A trip well worth contemplating. There was so much more to see but time, as ever, was against us. Skye bridge Sango Sands Portnalong Skye bridge Sango Sands Portnalong Portnalong Portn ..read more

Time off down route continues to pay off for Gareth. Having another free day in Leipzig does not mean a day wasted! With unseasonably good weather and easy access to the Saxon Switzerland on the Czech border, Gareth visited the sandstone mountains in the Elba valley, just outside Pirna. Using a Sony Alpha 6500 and A DJI Phantom 4 Pro, Gareth captured both still and moving images ..read more

Gareth visits the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig. Using a combination of a Sony Alpha 6500 and a DJI Phantom 4 Pro, Gareth captured footage of this spectacular building, built to commemorate the bloodiest battle in Europe prior to the 20th Century. The scale of the construction is nothing short of incredible, given that it was completed for the 100th anniversary of the Battle, in 1913. The 'Guardians of the Dead', sculpted from granite, stand over 30 feet tall and loom majestic and sombre, over the landscape outside. On the second story inside, the Ruhmeshalle (Hall of Fame ..read more

Yesterday was the 115th anniversary of the first powered flight. I flew 25 tons of Christmas presents from Leipzig, Germany to Barcelona, Spain (a distance of a little under 1000 miles) in just over 2 hours. Our collection of a million parts (some rotating at 10,000 rpm) and a 180 kilos of flesh and bone, flew at a height of 7 miles, covering an average of 8 miles per minute, in a temperature of -60 degrees Celsius and it did it in perfect safety… in an aircraft designed just 65 years after the first wooden and fabric covered aircraft flew. After I’d slept, I laced up a pair of running shoes ..read more
