SWATCHES | Light medium and medium olive foundations/concealers
Girl & Vanity – Chronicles of a product junkie

Since my last foundation swatch post, I’ve added a few more base products to my never-ending collection. While I was trying to find the best possible shade matches in these foundations and concealers, I had a hard time finding swatches for most of them because the ones I purchased are newer additions to the existing ranges. To help others who may be looking for similar shades (light medium and medium olive skin tones), here are some swatches for the following products: Dior Airflash Spray Foundation in 2.5 Warm Olive (321), Rare Beauty Concealer in 230N, Make Up For Ever Reboot Active Care Rev ..read more

REVIEW | Lisa Eldridge True Velvet Lipsticks in Velvet Dragon and Velvet Affair
Girl & Vanity – Chronicles of a product junkie

In an era where it seems like practically everyone and their mother comes out with a makeup line, it can be pretty overwhelming to weed through the ones worth trying. I’m usually wary of these new lines, especially given that I have a larger collection than the average person, but when Lisa Eldridge announced her new lipsticks last year, I immediately knew I had to try them. Lisa Eldridge’s reputation as a makeup artist precedes her, so I won’t spend too much time on why she is placed high on my list of respectable beauty YouTubers. Although the shades from her initial launch didn’t interest ..read more

REVIEW | NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation and Concealer
Girl & Vanity – Chronicles of a product junkie

Ever since NARS discontinued their Sheer Matte foundation, I haven’t been too interested or impressed with their matte products. I have a post about a matte foundation that NARS replaced the Sheet Matte foundation with, which I REALLY did not get on with. I actually tried the Soft Matte Complete Concealer when they first released it in late 2017, however I was ultimately not a huge fan. I chalked it up to the fact that I picked the wrong shade. When NARS released their Soft Matte Complete Foundation, I decided to give the foundation a go along with the concealer once again despite my overall ..read more

BATTLE OF THE BRANDS | MAC Face & Body vs. Dior Face & Body Foundation
Girl & Vanity – Chronicles of a product junkie

It’s been a while since I’ve written a ‘battle of the brands’ post on my blog, and what better way to bring it back than with these two foundations: the MAC Face & Body Foundation in the shade C3 vs. the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation in the shade 3WO. These products are similar in several (yet superficial) ways. Firstly, the both look the same, and secondly, they even have the same product names. So how do these two foundations compare and contrast? Read on to find out! Overview MAC Face & Body foundation: “a lightweight, hydrating foundation that delivers a satin finish ..read more

REVIEW | MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss Lipsticks

The “soft blur” effect on lips is one of my all time favourite looks. Anything that will give that popsicle stain effect or the wine stain on the lips – I am here for ALL of it. Enter the MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss Lipstick. These are basically the embodiment of that, without the dryness or intensity that usually comes with the territory. Read on to see some swatches and some brief thoughts! Overview Here’s a quick summary of what this lipstick is meant to be used for: Matte, totally reinvented. Delivering a romantic blur of soft-focus colour, this weightless moisture-matte lipstick was devel ..read more

REVIEW | Urban Decay Inked Brow
Girl & Vanity – Chronicles of a product junkie

I’m sure a large number of people remotely interested in beauty products has seen an ad or two with those peely lipsticks or brow “tattoos”. I won’t lie, although I know all those products are too good to be true, that hasn’t stifled my interest in them whatsoever. The idea of semi-permanent makeup, especially for lips and brows, is very appealing to me since I’m the person who wishes that their lips are an unnatural shade of red and loves the look of full-on bushy, unruly brows. A product I’ve come across which kind of sits within this realm of semi-permanency is the Urban Decay Inked Brow G ..read more

REVIEW | MAC Shot of Colour Lip Oil
Girl & Vanity – Chronicles of a product junkie
by girlandvanity

Somewhat recently, I noticed that MAC released some new lip products, a line called Shot of Colour lip oils. Lip oils generally are products I enjoy as they are moisturizing, not as shiny as a gloss but certainly more comfortable and less sticky, and bonus points if they have a decent tint to them. These seemed to fit the bill, so I picked up three shades: Punch-Drunk Love, which is described as a ‘soft pinkish coral’, Hit Me Up, described as ‘deep mauvey rose’, and Let’s Go Streakin!, described as ‘terracotta red’. As always, read on for some swatches, comparisons to other MAC lipstick shade ..read more

REVIEW | NARS Matte Bronzer in Vallarta
Girl & Vanity – Chronicles of a product junkie

Bronzers are staples in my every day routine. I can’t remember the last time I went without it, but I can’t imagine ever doing so again. It’s one of those steps that really makes all the difference when you feel like your face needs a little somethin-somethin. While preparing for this review, I took some before-and-after pictures with a full face of makeup on sans bronzer; getting ready and looking at the photos really solidified how important bronzer was, in my opinion! So today, I wanted to discuss a new bronzer which NARS came out with, the NARS Vallarta bronzer. So without further ado, let ..read more

SWATCH | All the blushes I own

My last “all the ____’s I own” post seemed to garner some interest, so I decided that I’d keep it going. This time, it is with my lovely collection of blushes. I knew that I probably had too many, but I didn’t realize just how much I had, and how similar a lot of them looked! Just goes to show that the “gotta catch ’em all” mindset is not necessary. Please read on if you’d like to see my world of blushes… Based on this little project, it’s safe to say that my preference in blushes lean towards the ones made by NARS and MAC. Both brands have a wide selection of blushes in different textures ..read more

REVIEW | Pat McGrath Skin Fetish: Sublime Foundation in Medium 15
Girl & Vanity – Chronicles of a product junkie

I’ve been enamoured with the Pat McGrath line ever since she launched her product line in full force. Could it be the marketing filled with lo-fi, sparkly goodness? Possibly. Could it be her aesthetically pleasing packaging? It probably helps. Regardless, whatever she comes out with, I’m more than willing to try. Combine that with my never-ending search for the perfect foundation, you can only imagine my joy when she announced her line of complexion products. It took me a while, but I managed to snag the Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation at a decent price when there was a sale on her ..read more
