Breastfeeding And Freedom

Being breastfeeding week I feel I should write something from a different perspective from someone who has come out on the other side. While the battle scars and wounds of being a breastfeeding mama have healed and have been replaced by the battles of parenting growing children one of them making me eat my words daily and challenging the status quo so much so that I have almost quit writing this blog worrying about being too preachy in the past, I wanted to write this from the perspective of someone who has been there done that with regards to breastfeeding and I’m now experiencing the freedom ..read more

Let’s Talk About Mom Guilt
Wholesome Mamma

I started this blog as a new mother who very much believed in a natural and intuitive lifestyle. It was focused on nutrition and baby care but with an approach of getting back to our roots with keeping today’s world in mind.   However my children are no longer babies, no longer worn or breastfed (more on that in the next post on finally weaning for good) and no longer eating only the most nutritious foods (hello junk and everything bad ) and no longer having the best of habits (hello ipad )   So I have been meaning to move on, get on with it and start writing more about me and my tri ..read more

Screen Time at 5 years

A long time ago I wrote this post on this topic. It was a time when I was way less experienced as to what toddlers, preschoolers and older children’s free will could be like. I wrote this when N (my now 5 year old) was 1. I am sure parents with older kids out there may have rolled their eyes and said ‘hmmm let this new mother talk, she will know when she has a full blown thinking human being on her hands’. Well it’s true, many lessons have been learnt and I have also reached a place where I roll my eyes when newer parents say – my child will never do that. But more on those 100+ instances for ..read more

The Best Parenting Books I’ve Read (And The Worst)
Wholesome Mamma

I gifted myself a Kindle on my birthday this year. Since this May I have bought and read 7 parenting books on it and I am so much richer as a human being. Just to let you know this is the main reason I have been writing less and less, as I am spending all my free time reading (yes it’s true). I am a parenting book junkie. I read parenting books on my Kindle and fiction in hard copy so I am almost always reading two books at a time. I don’t think you can learn to parent from books alone, but I do think if you read that many you are bound to get ideas that you can implement for your unique situa ..read more

The Challenge of The Challenging Child

Challenging Children Challenge. Ok I know all children are challenging and parenting is a challenge and there comes a time when every parent has to dig deep within themselves to parent etc etc. I know. But please allow me the  luxury of saying that I do have a child that is that little extra challenging from the time he was born to 4 years 8 months old (at the time when this post is being written.) He was a dragon spitting fire and still is. I have two boys; both little fire balls of energy, both headstrong, both very in need of attention and energy from – you guessed it – me. But there i ..read more

On Trust and Child Development In Our Fast Paced World

‘My 4 year old just scribbles’ I laugh to another mother. She belies her worry for a second while masking it a moment later saying, ‘it’s ok, don’t worry every child does things at their pace’. ‘Yes I know that, but you know a lot of 4 year olds are even writing and drawing quite decent pictures’. I reply. ‘Oh see this’, she whips out her phone and shows me the beautiful pictures drawn by her 4 year old and signed by her in beautifully legible handwriting. ‘That’s amazing, she is really advanced at this’. The mother shrugs smiles and I am left despairing. These are my thoughts: What if he need ..read more

Sling Review – Maaeri Artisan Embroidered Slings

I don’t know how to start with this review. Because whatever I say it’s going to sound skewed or one sided or super gushy. Let me be upfront and say it as it is. I opened the box that was sent to me from Maaeri to use and review and it was love at first sight. I loved the colour, the fabric, and the embroidery. A is now 21 months. At this point I always have a ring sling in my bag. Somehow I don’t use it too much most of the times though. Firstly he loves to walk and run. Second, at this weight (and he is a big toddler) a ring sling is not the most comfortable. I carry a ring sling over anoth ..read more

This is a guest post. Thank you Emma Hamilton for sharing this article with me and my readers: Have you ever tried calculating how much money you spend on baby wipes? If you haven’t already then I should let you know that its a lot! Not only are they expensive but store bought baby wipes do have some scary ingredients. The front says ‘alcohol-free’, ‘eco-friendly’, ’baby safe’, ‘non-harmful’, ‘calming’, etc. But when you look at the back and start reading, oh my, would you want to cry… There is a ton of ingredients that are one more complicated than the next. Mainly chemicals… So, here yo ..read more

Wholesome Mamma

Here is my first stint with potty training and N was without diapers by 17 months. Please read that post before you read this. A is now 20 months and is diaper free too. What I did in common with both: Started early Let them soil themselves and the house at times to get the sensation of things running down their legs Used mostly cloth diapers (nappies the first time and modern cloth diapers the second time) Let them lead the way What I did different: With A I started as soon as he could sit and was putting him on the potty regularly from 6 months. Then when he was 7 months and was doing beau ..read more
