A new online Beginning Astrology Course starts May 14, 2024 to be held weekly on Tuesdays at 6:00pm Pacific Time and runs for 26 consecutive weeks.  Each session is approximately 2 hours long. The sessions will be live on Zoom. Since space is limited, please get in touch with us as soon as possible to reserve your spot. We tend to keep the classes smaller in order to encourage discussion and allow students to share experiences of their natal chart. We feel there is no better way to learn astrology than through one’s chart. Therefore, it is a highly interactive environment rather than a me ..read more

Solar Total Eclipse: April 8, 2024
Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics Blog
by Jim Sher

Solar eclipses are a very important phenomenon in astrology. They occur every 6 months or so, but some of them are much more potent than others. This particular Solar eclipse occurring on April 8, 2024 is unusually strong because it is a total eclipse., which only occurs every 18 months or so. I regard Solar eclipses as being “inertia destroyers.” By this I mean that all of us tend to desire that our lives remain stable and predictable. But, when we do this, we are promoting inertia which wants to keep everything the same. This is unlikely to be the case with this solar eclipse, especially sin ..read more

Transpersonal Astrology: What is the Nature of One’s Chart
Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics Blog
by Jim Sher
1M ago
At the heart of Transpersonal Astrology lies a profound truth: one’s natal chart is not merely a reflection of who they are or a predictor of a fixed destiny. Instead, it serves as a dynamic map of potential, offering a unique blend of possibilities and probabilities tied to the precise moment and location of one’s birth. This understanding elevates the birth chart from a static snapshot to an evolving guide, an archetypal journey tailored to each individual’s path, illuminating the vast landscape of human experience while highlighting the singular nature of our personal journeys. The Main Cause of Confusion in Astrological Interpretation
Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics Blog
by Jim Sher
2M ago
I think that because I was a therapist before beginning to study astrology I was always oriented towards discovering how it might help me understand the person I was working with as well as in having some important clues about what might be the best approach to take with them. Naturally I learned astrology by reading books and magazines available to me at local new-age bookstores, but as I did, I found them to quite problematic for my purposes. As I’ve said in the previous video, the way astrologers often wrote, was to cause the reader to identify with the interpretation. It seemed to suggest ..read more

A Misfit Who Found Astrology and Her Calling
Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics Blog
by CarolP
2M ago
I have studied astrology for over 20 years and spoken with friends, clients and students about how they found astrology and what they experienced when they did. What they all have in common is that there was some type of crisis that caused them to seek answers that might not be explained by the usual answers given by religion or even by ordinary psychology. As a student of Sher Astrology and a teacher myself, I’d like to share my personal experiences that led me to astrology, and specifically to the more spiritual aspects of it. Growing up I didn’t fit in with the athletic crowd; I didn’t fit ..read more

The Paradox of Uranus in Taurus
Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics Blog
by Jim Sher
3M ago
Astrologers regard Uranus as the planets of shocks, disruption and surprises that seem to come out of nowhere. Even its spin axis is inclined by about 98° compared to its orbital plane around the Sun, which means it’s essentially spinning on its side. Very odd! It is the archetypal outlier that propels us to look at the world in new, even weird ways. Also, it rules new technologies that might enable us to not just look at the world and cosmos in new ways, but introduce entirely new models of how our reality works into the zeitgeist. Most of all, Uranus seems to have the intention of moving us ..read more

Empowerment in the Transformational Process: Embracing the Unknown
Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics Blog
by Jim Sher
3M ago
The issue of empowerment is one of the most talked about issues I see whenever I am on social media, YouTube, or the many websites which encourage us to improve our ability to succeed in life. To me, however, there is something I rarely see discussed which I believe is absolutely necessary if we are to grow whether that be in our everyday life and careers or the more internal realms of our consciousness. The concept of empowerment is usually defined as the process of gaining more freedom and power to do what we want and control what happens to us. This includes one gaining confidence, strength ..read more

Scorpio New Moon – November 13, 2023
Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics Blog
by Jim Sher
5M ago
On Monday, November 13th, the Sun and Moon are at 20° Scorpio, conjunct Mars at 22° Scorpio opposing Uranus at 21° Taurus at 1:27 am PST. The general theme of this Soli-lunar cycle is the following: it can be a time of change and reevaluation of strategies, which have the potential to be enduring. This is due to the influence of Uranus in a fixed sign which can indicate a strong drive to challenge established norms and determine what new approaches might be necessary. Also, with the Mars conjunction, there will likely be an intense need for action, calling for innovation and renewal. The Sabia ..read more

Elements in Astrology – Part I Editor’s Note: This is the first of a four-part series to be released through the Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics newsletter. Introduction Astrology can be thought of as a symbolic language comprised of universal archetypal principles. Further, from a Transpersonal Astrology perspective, these archetypes are viewed as a holistic system containing embedded messages from what I consider to be “cosmic Intelligences” that provide information about ourselves, our place in the world, and our mission in this life. The configuration of an individual’s ..read more

Mercury Retrograde Cycle – Part 1
Sher Institute of Astrology & Metaphysics Blog
by Jim Sher

There is an interesting phenomenon going on in our culture right now in regard to Mercury retrograde. On one hand, there are many people, including non-astrologers, who are aware of when Mercury goes retrograde. In fact, I often hear many people blame Mercury retrograde for what might be going on in their lives, even when it is not retrograde. But, the Mercury retrograde cycle itself is a very important one that is worth understanding. Mercury retrograde is often thought of as an inconvenient time, but I believe this view is part of our culture’s belief that we always must be busy doing someth ..read more
