IOC Session accepted WAKO application for Full Recognition
Today 20th July, The IOC session in Tokyo, Japan, accepted the sport of Kickboxing with full
recognition under the auspices of the World Governing Body, WAKO (World Association of
Kickboxing Organizations) at the duly convened IOC session.
Then a long journey finally came to an end. Since 30th November 2018, WAKO has been provisionally recognized and WAKO has since then worked diligently, strategically and targeted.

This year due to the covid restrictions, the ongoing and ever-changing guidelines, we will be hosting the AGM on the Zoom platform.

“Today, has seen a major milestone for the sport of Kickboxing on the Island of Ireland, I am delighted to inform all our members KBI is now a member of the Olympic Federation of Ireland.
It reminds me of one of my favourite quotes:

Kickboxing Ireland recently caught up with Damian ‘The Kid’ Darker during his preparations for his upcoming WAKO-PRO K1 INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE fight which will be held in Dubai under the K1 Combat promotion banner on the 20th November 2020.
This is the biggest challenge to date for the 28 year old Irish multi K1 champion.
Damian is no stranger to the world stage though as he has already headlined numerous k1 title fights in various world bodies and associations.

The first official KBI affiliated tournament of the new season, the New Year’s Open is promising to be one of the biggest national tournament to date.
The NYO, hosted by the Tallaght Martial Arts association is growing yearly. For the past few years, the event is now held in the Citywest Hotel where it can comfortably hold the ever increasing participants and spectators that are attracted to the annual tournament of the season that is now the norm as the tournament to enter to kick off the fighting season.
