A Tanzania Dream Comes to Fruition!
Conservation Volunteers International Program

My first introduction to ConservationVIP® came during the summer of 2015 when an acquaintance at REI Adventures suggested I check out their volunteer conservation trips. So, I did, and I liked what I saw regarding the mission and vision on the website, but I noticed there were no trips to countries within Africa. So, I sent in an inquiry as it is a continent I enjoy traveling to frequently for adventure activities in nature and cultural heritage. Back then, no trips to Africa were in the plans, so that remained a dream for me. I wanted to find a great program that allowed me to travel with pur ..read more

Along the Way- Volunteering in Costa Rica
Conservation Volunteers International Program
by Tom Iraci

Tom Iraci I’m not known for creative writing. Instead, my creative skills lay in photography, and combining photos and music into videos to tell a story. I joined ConservationVIP’s volunteer trip to Costa Rica last September, and I want to share my video blog with you. Along the Way is a round trip visual tour from the trip’s start to finish, showing our fabulous team of volunteers working on our projects, having fun (a LOT of fun), and seeing the incredible wildlife and scenery throughout our trip. And while I put the photos and music together, I want to call out the rest of our team for thei ..read more

Gratitude to the Great Sky
Conservation Volunteers International Program

Thanks to very generous donors, ConservationVIP® was able to offer a scholarship to Daniel Humphrey so he could participate in our June 2023 Alaska Volunteer Trip. Here he reflects on his experience: “Gratitude to the Great Sky who holds billions of stars – and goes yet beyond that – beyond all powers, and thoughts and yet is within us – Grandfather Space. The Mind is his Wife.” so be it.” -Gary Snyder In the wake of a national bestseller, which was later adapted into a major motion picture, it is safe to say that Jon Krakauer’s masterful 1996 nonfiction novel Into the Wild has cemented itself ..read more

Five Star Guide in the Galápagos Islands
Conservation Volunteers International Program
by Mark Hardgrove

The Galápagos Islands are a rare and distinctive collection of volcanic islands located 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. The combination of hot equatorial sun and cool ocean waters from the convergence of the Cromwell and Humboldt currents has nurtured rich marine and terrestrial environments that support a wide variety of plants and animals, many found only in the Galapagos. Thanks to the help of Andres de la Torre, the guide on ConservationVIP’s Galápagos Islands Volunteer Trip, our trip participants experience it, understand and learn about it, and enjoy it. North to Alaska
Conservation Volunteers International Program

This past summer I spent nearly 2 weeks in Southeast Alaska on a ConservationVIP volunteer trip. I am left in awe. Seriously, I will make a feeble attempt to put into words what seems like such a mystery to me. How do such good things happen to someone as ordinary as me? Let’s start with a little background. SE Alaska has some of the most pristine wilderness on the planet. From water, it is visible via the world renowned Inside Passage. From land, well, the 500-mile long Tongass National Forest isn’t visible. What I mean is that only portions are accessible via road. There is no “highway 1” of ..read more

Nature Brings Out the Best in Us
Conservation Volunteers International Program

I like the quotation “people need nature, nature does not need people.”  When we are in the natural world, in our backyards, parks, forests, backcountry or high up in the mountains, we feel peace, tranquility and contentment. ConservationVIP is an organization that facilitates people to go to beautiful places, to meet people locally and to contribute, “to Travel with Purpose.” It is the combination of being in some of the world’s greatest landscapes and cultural heritage sites, with the ability to immerse oneself to contribute to the lands and give back by working with locals and in the c ..read more

The Yosemite Diaries

Call it the ultimate call of the wild. As post-pandemic tourism numbers return and travel hotspots heat-up across the world, I’d long wanted to join one of the growing number of international volunteer programmes to tackle the increasingly evident woes of over-tourism. So last month, I signed up for the ultimate altruistic adventure by channeling my inner park ranger (or perhaps lumberjack!) and headed to California’s wilderness wonderland, Yosemite National Park, to volunteer. Day 1 After witnessing a fireball sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge, I finally reached the South Entrance of Yosemit ..read more

That’s Right! No doubt about it. Ask anyone. I am one of the Hardest-Working, Fun-Seeking, Glass-Full, Patagonia-Loving, Volunteer Leaders you will ever know! And I love Torres del Paine! I took my first trip to Patagonia in 2004. At the time I was taking a vacation from my job as District Ranger on the Inyo National Forest in California. I remember my first glimpse of Las Torres and our hike up to the base of the towers later that day. WOW!!!! Since that first trip, I’ve returned to Chile several times. Each time my wild spirit is fueled by these amazing landscapes and the wonderful people ..read more
