As you buzz on through this newsletter, please note all of the seeds flowering – like the reopening of the retrofitted NE Branch of the Seattle library that we campaigned for in 2021, as well as what is withering, like Seattle’s transportation infrastructure as prophesied in the&nb ..read more

11 years of 350 Seattle and 1 year as Executive Director By Shemona Moreno Looking Back As we start our 11th year of existence, filled with such bad-ass activism, it has me thinking back on what life was like all those years ago. 350 Seattle got its start in 2013 as a small but scrappy group of people coming together to take action on climate and environmental justice. With heavy emphasis on direct action in partnership with youth orgs and Indigenous activists, 350 Seattle worked to join the movement to uphold the thin green line; to make Seattle the region where fossil fuel projects go to die ..read more

March 23 Newsletter: Direct Action Edition
350 Seattle
by Ben

Have you noticed that the cherry trees are already blossoming and flower bulbs sprouting? Spring isn’t waiting and neither are we! There’s a rich metaphor here that I insist on dragging through this newsletter: Think of the plants spring-ing, not waiting to shake off winter as a form of … direct action. MLK defined direct action as”[direct action] seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. It seeks to so dramatize the issue that it can no longer be ignored.” Since 350 Seattle began, direct ..read more

In a new report released today by Stop the Money Pipeline, Sierra Club and Stand.Earth shows how state pension funds voted on shareholder resolutions related to climate change. The WSIB received an F grade while many other blue states received ..read more

We will not let Seattle become Surveillance City
350 Seattle
by Dante Garcia

Mayor Harrell and the new City Council are attempting a massive expansion of surveillance technologies in Seattle – they claim that these technologies will improve public safety and help the Seattle Police Departments solve more cases. Our communities are already over-policed and over-surveilled. We don’t need more policing or more folks in jails: we need real solutions and actions that address the root causes of gun violence. This is not it. Seattle residents have until the end of February to weigh in against this violation of public trust. Tell Mayor Harrell and the City Council: No to Surve ..read more
