Visiting Lucerne during the Festival of Lights

Switzerland is one of those slightly underrated destinations, which may have a good reputation for winter sports and snowy mountains but there really is so much more to it. I’ve been to Switzerland many times over the last years and every single time I realize just how nice it is. The delicious food, the laid-back people, the high standard in everything you see, taste and visit. It’s a great place to experience adventure, nature, culture and relaxation, all in one. Naturally I said YES when Lucerne Tourism asked whether I wanted to come visit their city during the annual LILU Festival of Lig ..read more

A Love Letter to Newcastle upon Tyne, England

For a few years after I left university – a good ten years ago now – I struggled to make sense of my life. In a failing relationship and lurching from one silly job to another, I moved from city to city in the UK, trying to find a place I could call home. A friend from uni impulsively asked me to move in with her in her flat in Heaton, Newcastle, and I, equally impulsively, agreed. And so began my love affair with one of the northernmost cities in England; a place that welcomed me, healed me and taught me the meaning of home, a place which will always be special to me. Tucked away in the far ..read more

Paris is by far one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen – and this year I have fulfilled my dream to live here! However, while it really is like a dream come true, there are a few things about living in Paris, I wish I had known before. Not everything is the way I had imagined it… I had visited Paris for the first time in 2013 with my sister. We were on vacation and visited all the must-see places. We ate crepes, stayed in a hotel in the city center and even had a guided tour of the city. My experience of moving to Paris this year could not be any further removed from that. I was fa ..read more

How to Choose a Meaningful travel Destination
Travelettes » Sweden

However long, enjoyable, or expensive your next vacation is shaping up to be, your chosen travel destination tends to be a huge part of that equation. That’s why the question of where to go can be pretty overwhelming, and brings up plenty of other questions. For instance, are you looking to soak up some sun on a quiet beach, or maybe in a mountain villa? Do you want to immerse yourself in history or culture — and if so, of decades past or of centuries ago? Maybe you want to meet new people, or perhaps are looking to take some time to reconnect with just yourself. It’s easy to look at a ..read more

City-tripping in Zurich: our slow travel wellness break

When I think about a girls’ getaway weekend, Zürich in the middle of February doesn’t immediately come to mind. I live in central Berlin, where midwinter is a chilly monotony of grey skies and overcoats. My energy for work and self care starts to flag. What usually re-energizes me is novelty, or a touch of heat on my skin. To my delight, a weekend stay at the waterfront Alex Lake Hotel Zürich offered me just the reset I had been craving.   The Urban Getaway That’s Still a Secret What immediately struck me as I entered lobby was the stunning view of Lake Zürich, shimmering in the backgro ..read more

My weekend with friends at a mountain chalet
Travelettes » Sweden

Have you ever traveled with a group of friends? I have been fantasizing of renting a chalet in the mountains and bringing a bunch of my friends. A place where we could sit together until late at night, drinking wine by the fireplace, brunching on the terrace on a sunny day and skinny-dipping in the sauna followed by a bath in the snow. Sounds too good to be true? At Grosslehen, in the Kitzbühel Alps in Austria, this is a just a regular day. Located in the town of Fieberbrunn lies Grosslehen, a small and subtly luxurious mountain resort that’s been family-run for 3 generations. Recent renova ..read more

Our magical Winter-Getaway at Kaiserlodge in Tyrol

The Kaiserlodge had popped into my feed every now and again for years already. It was clearly a popular destination for winter and I had one too many times marveled at its beautiful lagoon pool and the classic, yet modern interior. Naturally I was excited when the invitation rolled around to go check it out for myself! I quickly purchased my train tickets, started shopping for new snow gear and then something happened, that absolutely no one could have foreseen – Corona. Indeed, I have been planning of visiting the Kaiserlodge since the beginning of 2020 and the momentum had been building up ..read more

“What would you like to experience?” Jennifer, the PR who helped me plan our Japan trip asked me over the phone. My mind started racing but in the back of my mind I had been crafting a rough draft of my first trip to Japan for the past 20 years. “Cities, food and nature, maybe some snow?”, I replied and Jennifer took those few words and turned them into the best itinerary anyone could ask for. And because I loved my 10 days in Japan so much I will map out our exact itinerary for you and hopefully inspire you to draft out your own in the not so distant future.   Day 1-3: TOKYO! 7 things I learned from traveling to Dubai

I think Dubai is one of those places that people have pretty strong opinions about. You either love it or you… don’t. It’s not for everyone and I can say from personal experience that I very much grew to like it. I am currently on my fourth trip and unlike the first or second time here I can honestly say that I now appreciate Dubai in a way I didn’t think I could when I first came here some 10 years ago. On one of those past trips I shared with you my Dubai Do’s which i still think offer some great insider tips on where to go for a cool experience. However, Dubai changes quickly so it’s time ..read more

Why you shouldn’t compare your travels to Instagram

The year is almost up and many have begun thinking about how to make the next one their best one yet.  Those New Years’ resolutions enter our minds and one of those may be to travel more. The thing is, we have now become the social media generation. We sit and we scroll, all day and all night, even though we know this isn’t entirely good for us, both mentally and physically, but we just can’t help it. The thing is we are constantly bombarded with beautiful imagery, travel bloggers, influencers and anyone in between. This can often make us question our own lives, am I good enough? Am I ac ..read more
