Strike 3: The Rockies rebuild approach differs from the Denver Broncos
Mile High Sports
by Mark Knudson

Strike 3: Is there any chance the rebuilding Colorado Rockies would follow a similar path as the rebuilding Denver Broncos? Would they ever consider handling Kris Bryant the same way the Broncos handled Russell Wilson, by just eating the players’ massive contract and parting ways? Unlikely, but something to think about. Wilson was healthy and fairly productive during his final season in predominantly orange, but he just didn’t fit what first-year Broncos head coach Sean Payton wanted to do with his offense. Despite having missed the playoffs for eight straight years, as an organization the Br ..read more

Stepping into the UC Heath practice gym at Ball Arena, it’s readily apparent that the Denver Nuggets are in a good place after the last two practices. There are smiles, laughs, and a good natured attitude surrounding the moment, one that the Nuggets are familiar with after last season’s championship run. There’s also a level of seriousness, knowing that Saturday is coming quickly and the team must be exceptionally prepared. “Yesterday, we had a good practice,” head coach Michael Malone shared with local media in attendance on Thursday. “Today’s practice I thought was exceptional. Guys were loc ..read more

Why the Broncos shouldn’t reach for a pass rusher with pick No. 12

The Denver Broncos need more pass rush productivity on defense in 2024, and this year’s crop of edge rushers could be appealing targets for the team to consider 12th overall if they don’t take a quarterback. Denver Broncos edge rusher options in 2024 NFL Draft Edge rusher seems to be the one position for the Denver Broncos where there appears to be a huge disconnect. A lot of fans or analysts think that the Broncos’ edge-rusher group isn’t good enough, and that they have to add to it, but was that a scheme issue last season – or was it due to lack of production? Jonathon Cooper led the team wi ..read more

Strike 2: The Avalanche need to bring physicality to the postseason
Mile High Sports
by Mark Knudson

Strike 2: Can the Colorado Avalanche suddenly get physical? That’s not the word most often associated with one of the NHL’s most explosive and high flying offensive teams. But it is a term that most coaches – including the Avs Jared Bednar – in search of a Stanley Cup would like to be able to attach to their club heading into the playoffs. Offense sells tickets. Defense wins championships, remember? Heading into this postseason, the Avalanche defense has been shoddy, including goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. Much like his team, Georgiev has won a lot of games – his 38 W’s lead the league. But ..read more

This year’s NFL Draft is shaping up to be a QB bonanza, and if the Broncos don’t act, they’ll miss out. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are expected to go 1-2-3. And J.J. McCarthy will likely go in the top-6 as well. With Denver selecting at No. 12 overall, that would leave them reaching for a guy like Bo Nix. Or, they could take the best fit available and take a QB in Round 3. But mock drafters are keeping things spicy, predicting the Broncos and Sean Payton will move up to take a QB. PFF predicts Broncos move up to No. 3 for a QB In Pro Football Focus’ latest mock draft, they ..read more

Jake Cave quickly endearing himself to Colorado Rockies players and fans
Mile High Sports
by Drew Creasman

The Colorado Rockies went through a truly fascinating sequence of events during Spring Training, searching for the right person to assume the role of back-up outfielder at all three spots and a quality left-handed bat off the bench. They began by signing former first round pick Bradley Zimmer who has shown quality defense but never managed to be an above-average hitter in six seasons, mostly with Cleveland. Though Zimmer was having a decent spring, the Rockies clearly weren’t satisfied as they reached out to an old friend and brought back their own former 15th-round draft pick Sam Hilliard.
