Halloween Party Playlist II

It’s hard to believe it’s been four years since we did our first Halloween Party Playlist in 2017. Just like so many horror movie franchises, we aren’t above recycling our ideas into sequels, so here is our second crack at a Halloween party mix. Last year, hardly anyone was getting together for Halloween fun, but now in the “post-vaccination” world, we figure at least some of you might venture to host or attend a costume party for the holiday. Like last time, we skipped some obvious choices everyone knows (“Thriller”, “Werewolves in London”, etc.) but let us know about your favorite Halloween ..read more

In Memoriam: Norm Macdonald

Norm Macdonald passed away this past week. Macdonald wasn’t an A-list personality. He even admitted that in one of his podcasts and a lot of younger people may not know him at all. I loved Norm Macdonald. I first remember him on Saturday Night Live and then later performing stand up. Lately we have lost some really top-notch comedians, Robin Williams, Gary Shandling and now Norm. He was edgy like no other and told some amazingly politically incorrect jokes, but they always came from somewhere. He always told the truth and meant well. From what they say he was a caring, good guy, who like most ..read more

We enjoyed doing “Cancel This Film”, so it seemed natural to do the same type of list with songs. There are a lot of songs out there that have offensive content, even beyond the normal swearing. Many (most?) rock songs are about trying to get laid, so depending on the aggressiveness of the lyrics, some of them now run afoul of today’s post #meetoo era sensibilities. The question is, how much do these songs deserved to be censored? Or do we accept that they were written in a different time and don’t deserve a retroactive standard to be applied to them. Anyway, here are our thoughts on songs tha ..read more

5 Things about… Beckett
The Pop Cultural Lists

So we thought we would try something new. A movie review in list form! The first one is the recent Netflix release Beckett, directed by Ferdinando Cito Filomarino. John David Washington stars as Beckett, a man who is vacationing in Greece with his girlfriend April, played by Oscar winner Alicia Vikander. I am not going to spoil anything, but when something goes wrong, Beckett is thrust into the middle of a vast political conspiracy. I like John David Washington, I like seeing him doing different things and also to start distancing himself from his famous father. He is why I wanted to watch thi ..read more

Face Off 2: Die Harder – Cage vs Willis

So, one of our favorite posts was Face Off: Travolta vs Cage. We wanted badly to do a sequel, but when we looked, Travolta’s movie production had slowed down quite a bit. Cage, on the other hand, doesn’t stop. When we thought of other actors who were once decent but have completely given up and keep pumping out the films, only Bruce Willis came to mind. So we fit a square peg into a round hole just so we could have some fun. Unfortunately, they have never appeared together. So here we go. DJ Bruce Willis I was lucky enough to write about Cage last time. His films, although often terrible, give ..read more

Weather Tunes

We enjoyed our posts on Space Songs and Summer Songs, so we wanted to do another themed post about songs. With the crazy wildfires and record heat going out on out west in the US, and weeks of rain here in the Northeast, why not put together a list of songs that touch on the weather? Here are some tunes to listen to no matter what Mother Nature has in store for us. Mike G. So many songwriters have used a weather motif, especially rain, to reflect an emotional state, it wasn’t hard to track down some weather-themed song titles. For whatever reason, snow doesn’t seem to get its due, even among o ..read more

One night we were sitting around a fire with another friend having a beer or two, and we started discussing a recent article I had seen. It was an interview with Karen Allen, Marion from Raiders of the Lost Ark. She touched on the fact that some dialogue in the film intimated that Indy and Marion’s relationship started when she was a young teen. She also said George Lucas wanted her to have actually been eleven. This part could not be corroborated and if true – shocking. So people had discussed cancelling the film, making Indy (a fictional character) out to be Woody Allen. Keep in mind the fil ..read more

Summer Mix-Tape

Summer is here! At least where we are. Summer is the time for school vacations, sun, heat, beaches, parties and most of all music!! What better time to have our first summer music list. You can listen to it at pool parties, BBQs, work outings, or while reading a book in the backyard. By no means are these 20 songs a comprehensive list, but it will give you a head start and who knows, maybe we will do a sequel next summer. DJ I like the summer like anyone else, but it’s overrated. The fall and spring do it for me, I like it slightly cooler than most. Fall sports are so much better and the ki ..read more

Franchise Killers

Hollywood loves nothing more than a major film franchise. It’s almost a license to print money, as they assume audiences will just keep buying tickets to see the next installment, regardless of whether the quality stays consistent. A good example is the Harry Potter series, maximized for profit by the now common practice of splitting the last book into two movies. While the studio did manage to keep a good product going through the 7 original films, the two subsequent Fantastic Beasts were terrible, and yet audiences keep seeing them and there are plans for like five more (???). Other franchis ..read more

With Chinese rocket boosters falling from the sky, an orbital hotel being developed, a new “Space Force”, and Jeff Bezos throwing tons of cash into developing a rocket to compete with fellow billionaire Elon Musk (boys will be boys), we thought it was a great time to put together a list of songs with titles that reference outer space. Let us know your favorite interstellar songs that we missed. DJ I thought about calling this post 2021 – A Space Oddity, since this has been the year of space talk. We have Space-X and the government is now basically admitting UFO’s or UAP’s are real. My songs ar ..read more
