By Herald Journal Publishing Alden Capital/MediaNews Group announced Thursday it will cease operations for eight area newspapers on both sides of Herald Journal’s territory. Those include the Hutchinson Leader, Litchfield Independent-Review, Chanhassen Villager, Chaska Herald, Shakopee Valley News, Prior Lake American, Savage Pacer, and Jordan Independent. The closure announcement also includes the printing plant of Crow River Press in Hutchinson which prints Herald Journal’s five newspapers. The final printing week is scheduled for April 26. By Owen Elle Editor The Glencoe Rotary Club is starting fundraising efforts to construct a dog park at Oscar Olson Sunrise Park. The estimated cost of building the one-acre dog park is $51,570. The Glencoe City Council unanimously approved a Park Board recommendation to approve a $12,500 earmark for 2025 towards the construction of the dog park with funds from the Park Improvement Fund on April 1st. Glencoe Rotary Club President Julie Schmidt says the club will be contributing $15,070 towards the project and will be applying for a “local district grant through Rotary for about $4,000”. read m ..read more

By Owen Elle Editor The county board unanimously approved a fiscal host agreement between McLeod County Health and Human Services and the Southwestern Minnesota Adult Mental Health Consortium (SMAMHC) for the period of April 2 through April 2, 2025. McLeod County Health and Human Services will serve as fiscal host and manage all SMAMHC funds, and they will be reimbursed three percent of all annual revenues. The reimbursement will occur on a quarterly basis. As the fiscal host, they will be considered a voting member of the consortium’s operational board. read more ..read more

Bergmann’s constructing new building in Hutchinson; to change name

By Owen Elle Editor Bergmann Interiors is constructing a new 12,000-square-foot building in Hutchinson where the business will move to in the summer. Bergmann Interiors was sold by longtime owner Bruce Bergmann to current owner Brent Posusta in May 2023. The move will also coincide with a name change for the business. Posusta says the business will still be in Glencoe until June as they wait for the new building which will be twice the size of its current building to finish construction. He says the reason the business is moving to Hutchinson is for “more space.” read more ..read more

The park is expected to cost $51,570 to construct, with fencing alone costing $36,215. By Owen Elle Editor The Glencoe City Council during its Monday meeting passed a motion by a 3 to 2 vote to approve a space needs assessment for both the Police Department and the Fire Department at the cost of $9,800. This comes after a motion to have the space needs assessments put on the department's 2025 budgets failed by a 2 to 3 vote. Councilors Cory Neid and Mark Hueser voted against the motion that ultimately passed with the former noting the two space needs assessments were not budgeted for. read more ..read more
