Joint Statement from Governor Hochul and Governor Murphy on Minimizing Supply Chain Disruptions Following the Collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge “The tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has touched every corner of the nation, and we are ready to support Governor Moore and the people of Maryland in any way. We have seen over the past several years that indefinite port closures can impact national and global supply chains, which hurt everyday consumers the hardest. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey can take on additional cargo, and we have ..read more

Below is Insider NJ’s Morning Intelligence Briefing:   QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I frankly think the line has worked pretty well, and if progressives are out there trying to look at whether or not they got a good government over the past 6½ years, I’d like them to find a more progressive government in America … with yours truly elected twice on the line in both cases.” – Governor Murphy rejecting the characterization that he’s a lame duck   TOP STORY: The Bashaw of Zdan     Governor Murphy says county ballot lines have ‘worked pretty well‘, according to the Bergen Record. FLORHAM PARK – Democrats ended their Senate primary for all intents and purposes on Sunday when Tammy Murphy dropped out of the race. Now it’s time for Republicans to do the same. And they should coalesce around Curtis Bashaw,  the owner of a number of hotels and inns in Cape May. Says who? That would be Bashaw himself and Alex Zdan, who ended his own Senate candidacy on Monday. On Tuesday, Zdan and Bashaw made their pitch for unity outside a local diner. In endorsing Bashaw, Zdan referenced Murphy’s departure and said unity beckons for Republicans. “We can end this pr ..read more

Monmouth Poll: Desire to Move out of the Country on an Upswing

Watergate may have defined 1974 much as our current political conflict defines today. Still, then, as now, Americans went about their day-to-day lives. To see how much, if at all, everyday activities and wishes have changed, the Monmouth University Poll posed some “slice of life” questions that were asked by national pollsters fifty years ago. One of the starkest differences the new poll reveals between then and now is a three-fold increase in the number of people who say they would like to move out of the country. Other less dramatic but still sizable shifts found in this retrospective take o ..read more

Remember Patricia and Mark McCloskey? If the names don’t register, the incident will. They are the St. Louis couple who pointed guns at George Floyd protest marchers during the heyday of such activity in 2020. Proving that there is always a Jersey connection, the McCloskeys have popped up in state politics – specifically in CD-11. Mikie Sherrill won that once solidly-Republican district in 2018 and has fended off two opponents since – a feat made easier by redistricting after the 2020 Census. Given the fact she got nearly 60 percent of the vote two years ago, GOP interest i ..read more

Kim, the Line, and the Aftermath: Now What???
Insider NJ
by Fred Snowflack

So, how does Tammy Murphy’s dropping out impact the ongoing federal suit challenging how “county lines,” or primary endorsements, are awarded in New Jersey? It changes things quite a bit. That, at least, is the view of lawyer Mark Natale, who represents the Burlington County Clerk, one of many defendants in the suit. In a Monday morning filing with Judge Zahid Quraishi, Natale references Murphy’s Sunday exit from the race and notes that Andy Kim now stands to receive the “county lines” throughout the state. The suit, in which Kim is the lead plaintiff, seeks to end the ..read more
