Goodbye Ride On Cycling

The time has come to retire Ride On Cycling. Way back in 2015, I started the YouTube channel to document and share my ride across Canada. I wanted to share my journey because the blogs I read when I discovered bike touring taught me so much and helped make my ride a success. I decided to use video because, at the time, there weren’t any cycling across Canada vlogs. I hoped others might see me in action, just a regular person, and believe they could do it too. Years later, Nathan (my husband now) and I are glad to have those videos to look back on and remember that amazing summer. They aren’t ..read more

A Change of Pace, Cycling Mini Break

This post is sponsored by Fuller’s Beautiful Bedrooms. They asked me to visit one of their pubs with bedrooms and share the experience with you. One of the reasons I said yes (besides the obvious, beer!) to working with them is because Fuller’s recognises that cyclists are good customers and they are right, the cycle tourism industry is worth €44 billion in Europe. When I hear of a business going out of their way to make cyclists feel welcome, I’m all for supporting that business. Read on to find out more. Nathan and I haven’t had the chance to get away on a proper cycling holiday this year ..read more

FINDRA Merino-light, Wool’s Not Just for Winter
Ride On Cycling

I’ve always been a fan of wool. Being from Canada, I’ve always had a wool sweater (usually big and chunky) of some kind as part of my wardrobe to keep me warm in winter. When I started cycling, I learned about merino wool’s ability to keep odour at bay and help keep you warm even when wet. I get cold quickly, especially when water is involved so this trait of merino wool is essential for me. Over the past few years, I’ve had many merino wool shirts and sweaters for wearing on and off the bike. On bike tours, I particularly love merino wool because when I’ve gone a few days without a proper sh ..read more

In these 2 videos, you’ll see my first impressions of Bristol cycling infrastructure shortly after I moved here last summer and now my current commute. In the commute video, I’m taking the most obvious route to my office. I’ll post an update in a couple of months as I perfect the route based on my preferences. Cyclists prioritize things differently depending on their experience, comfort levels mixing with traffic and how far they are travelling. I prefer to keep my route as straightforward as I can with minimal stop/starting and conflict and I’m happy to cycle amongst traffic to achieve this ..read more

Ride On Cycling

My time in London was coming to an end soon so I decided to take a break from packing and ride to Brighton. When I got there I was soon reminded how crazy Brighton can be on a hot summers day.  This ride was also one of the longer rides I’ve done on the Specialized Ruby Expert. Watch and see how what my first impressions of the Specialized Ruby Expert are ..read more

I Turned My Road Bike Into An E-Bike
Ride On Cycling

What is it? I’m asked every time I’m out and about on the Copenhagen Wheel. It’s a wheel that turns a normal bike into an e-bike and works on just about any bike with rim breaks. I’ve been having a lot of fun riding around on it and getting to know more about e-bikes. Watch and see how it works ..read more

I’ve been riding the Copenhagen Wheel for just over a month and thought I would share with you my thoughts on e-bikes (a video about the wheel is coming soon). Until you’ve ridden one it’s really hard to appreciate them and all the possibilities they offer. If you ever get the chance to give one a try do take it and give it a go, you’ll probably be surprised and you won’t be able to help smiling, they are a lot of fun. On this ride I take you with me as I cycle around Richmond Park and share with you my thoughts on e-bikes ..read more

Behind the Scenes at the Brompton Factory
Ride On Cycling

The Brompton folding bike was invented in West London and is still built in West London today in their new factory. When Brompton asked if I would like to visit their factory, being the curious person I am I had to say yes. I was pretty impressed to see how much of the bike is actually made at the factory and how many custom parts go into making this bike. Brompton continually test and look for ways to improve their bike. This year they have produced their first e-bike version of the Brompton which I got the chance to take for a quick spin as the grand finale of my tour. You can see it all for ..read more

Vätternrundan – To The Start

I read about the Vätternrundan about a year ago, I’m not big on sportifs but there was something about this one, a 300km cycle around a lake in Sweden, that captured my imagination. So I read up on how to get a spot, marked my calendar with a reminder of the registration date and come the end of October Nathan and I had a spot in the Vätternrundan (which is Vättern for the lake and rundan for around, you ride around Lake Vättern). This video is part 1 of my experience, getting there and getting ready. Prior to this many of an hour was spent in the saddle training and getting our bodies used to ..read more
